Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Data Strategy and Institutional Analytics for the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Assistant Vice President for Data Strategy and Institutional Analytics works closely with the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs ( EVPAA) and reports directly to the Vice President for Institutional Research & Decision Support.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Collaborates directly with the EVPAA, the Vice President for Institutional Research and Decision Support, and senior academic leadership to deliver insights that shape institutional policy, planning, and decision-making.
  • Leads the Data Strategy and Institutional Analytics team, driving innovation, supporting institutional priorities, and building advanced capabilities in predictive modeling, AI, and machine learning-establishing Rutgers as a leader in higher education analytics.
  • Partners with leaders in the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (OIRDS) responsible for Reporting, Compliance, and Technology to strengthen academic analytics capacity across the institution.
  • Positions academic data as a strategic asset by advancing data stewardship frameworks, translating complex analyses into actionable insights, and guiding long-term academic priorities.


As a senior member of OIRDS, the Assistant Vice President will lead high-impact projects and ensure that evidence-based academic insights inform critical decisions at the highest levels of the University. Acting with independence and sound judgment, this leader will guide long-range planning, support institutional priorities, and build organizational capacity for advanced analytics-positioning Rutgers at the forefront of innovation and national leadership in higher education.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, social science, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in Institutional Research, Institutional Effectiveness, or comparable analytical work within an academic unit, including at least three (3) years of experience managing professional staff in an academic setting.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical language and analyses to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. preferred and ten years of practical data experience in an institutional research environment. (With a minimum of seven years at a four-year higher education institution.).
  • Experience with the following:
  • Using and deploying AI tools, especially in an academic research context.
  • Statistical languages and tools.
  • Hands-on visualization tools (example: Tableau, Power BI.).
  • Machine-learning frameworks for tabular data.

Equipment Utilized
  • Proficiency in the use of data analytics tools for data visualization, reporting, and predictive analysis.
