Supports the recruitment and scheduling of research participants for the growing research program at Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH). MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Collaborates with laboratory directors to understand their recruiting needs and works closely with the Recruitment Coordinator and the Community Engagement Coordinator to support recruitment through various contact methods (e.g., phone calls, emails, texting), at in-person events, and through social media.
  • Performs or assists in the recruitment of research participants, including special populations (e.g., children and adults who are hard of hearing, children who present with language delay, individuals with Down syndrome)
  • Tracks progress toward recruitment goals for individual studies and strives to include a broad sample of participants.
  • Supports development of content for social media to promote participation in research.
  • Performs screening interviews to ensure that participants meet requirements.
  • Manages multiple laboratory schedules, including coordinating research visits with clinical or other laboratory appointments.
  • Ensures that appropriate examiners are scheduled for each data collection visit.
  • Coordinates and books travel accommodations for research participants, including obtaining approvals and tracking and reconciling expenses across studies.
  • Supports strategic improvements to the BTNRH research participant registry and related applications.
  • Administers informed consent when requested and appropriate.
  • Supports community engagement through relationship building with participants and outreach with community groups.
  • Prepares submissions for the Institutional Review Board for the Participant Core, including changes in personnel and changes to protocols.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with others, including co-workers and participants.
  • Knowledge of computer software systems like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and online scheduling applications.
  • Ability to use a variety of office equipment, including personal computer, copier, telephone, fax and copier.
  • Ability to prioritize work appropriately, to work independently and to complete tasks in a timely manner in an active work environment.
  • Interpersonal skills, close attention to detail, math aptitude, and flexibility in duties performed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.
  • Evening and weekend availability for attending select pre-scheduled community events required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Interest in the research cycle preferred.
  • Experience with hearing, speech, and/or language service provision preferred.
  • Experience with medical records and online scheduling software preferred.
  • Experience with Canva and REDCap preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
