Position Summary
The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs announces an internal competitive search for the next director of ADVANCE at UNM. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, the Director of ADVANCE at UNM plays an important role in promoting faculty success for all central campus faculty. This is a .75 FTE appointment that comes with a SAC, 1/9 summer salary, and course releases in accordance with applicable workload policy.
The ADVANCE Director works closely with leaders and groups on central campus to support faculty and create sustainable changes in campus climate. The Director leads or coordinates all ADVANCE activities including but not limited to:
- Managing the ADVANCE staff (program manager, social media/communications manager) and overseeing the program budget
- Coordinating the ADVANCE Leadership Team to discuss current issues related to faculty success, set annual goals, develop multi-year plans, and conduct periodic faculty climate surveys and interviews.
- Working with the Leadership Team, Academic Affairs, and campus partners (FRDO, OVPR, CTL, and others) to propose, coordinate, and promote a series of workshops each semester on the faculty search process; retention, promotion, and tenure; research success; career advancement; career satisfaction; and other emerging topics.
- Conducting confidential meetings (not related to CEEO and Title IX) with faculty upon request.
- Collaborating closely with the ADVANCE staff on outreach and communications. Historically, this includes highly visible weekly email updates, targeted emails about workshops, semesterly newsletters, continual updates to the website, and campus climate survey invitations.
- Collaborating with the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs on various faculty development projects, including orientations for new faculty and chairs/academic program directors, the Chair's and Director's Colloquia, and meetings of Associate Deans for Faculty.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Full professor with tenure, or currently in the year of review for promotion to full professor, in a central campus UNM department
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to faculty career development, particularly for early career faculty
- Demonstrated range of leadership and service experience working with processes and policies at UNM, ideally including prior experience with the administrative side of hiring, tenure, and promotion processes
- Significant experience building effective relationships across multiple levels of the university and among multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering collaboration and trust in fulfillment of UNM's Opportunity Defined 2040
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting a positive academic work environment
- Experience or relevant skills necessary to further the unit's strong internal and external communication strategies
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
