Job Details:

General Notes

Provide instructional and operational support for General Chemistry laboratory courses (104M and 104N). This role involves assisting with digital course management, supporting wet lab execution, coordinating teaching assistant (TA) activities, and contributing to instructional content development. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about enhancing undergraduate education.

Purpose

To support the effective delivery of General Chemistry laboratory instruction by:

  • Ensuring smooth operation of lab components and digital course platforms.

  • Collaborating with instructional staff to improve lab content and pedagogy.

  • Providing guidance and logistical support to teaching assistants.

  • Maintaining accurate documentation and coordination for lab scheduling and grading.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with Canvas setup and troubleshooting for assignments, grading settings, and student access.

  • Support the execution of wet lab components for General Chemistry courses.

  • Collaborate on refining experimental procedures and developing instructional materials, including video production.

  • Conduct daily TA performance check-ins and arrange replacements as needed.

  • Create and maintain documentation and tracking systems for make-up labs and scheduling.

  • Facilitate TA training sessions and provide hands-on support during busy lab days.

  • Assist with monthly grading checks and coordinate logistics with TAs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field.

  • Experience with basic laboratory equipment and procedures.

  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms such as Canvas.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting undergraduate laboratory instruction.

  • Experience coordinating or mentoring teaching assistants.

  • Knowledge of instructional design or science education best practices.

  • Familiarity with grading workflows and academic scheduling tools.

Salary Range

$46,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Exposure to chemical fumes. Exposure to chemicals. Use of manual dexterity. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Standard office conditions. Security Sensitive: criminal background check conducted. Selected applicants must complete student information privacy training (FERPA training).
