We are seeking a results-driven, visionary and dynamic Senior Director, Software Engineering whose primary focus will be delivering on commitments to the business, while also leading efforts to transform and modernize the Software function across the Diagnostic Solutions portfolio.

This leader will be responsible for all aspects of software strategy, architecture, development, testing, and deliveryspanning full-stack solutions including Informatics, Enterprise Software, Instrument Applications, and Embedded Systems.

As a key member of the R&D Leadership Team, you will drive the integration of multiple software teams into a single, high-performing organization. You will champion functional excellence, agile delivery, and the adoption of AI and automation to accelerate innovation and deliver exceptional value to our customers.

Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership
  • Define and execute a unified software vision aligned with Diagnostic Solutions strategic goals
  • Lead the teams delivering the innovative Software solutions on our key flagship products, including BD BACTEC, BD COR & BD Synapsys to name but a few and have them formed into into a cohesive, collaborative organization
• Software Delivery & Innovation
  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of software solutions across the product portfolio
  • Drive excellence in architecture, development, testing, DevOps, and release management
  • Champion the use of AI, automation, and modern engineering practices to enhance productivity and innovation.
• Functional Excellence
  • Build and mentor a world-class software engineering organization
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical rigor, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ensure teams are equipped with the tools, training, and leadership to thrive
• Operational Excellence
  • Implement and scale agile methodologies and best practices across all software teams
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards in software development
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Systems Engineering, and Quality to deliver integrated solutions

Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
• 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
• Proven track record of leading large, distributed software teams in a regulated or high-tech environment
• Deep expertise in full-stack software development, including embedded systems, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications
• Strong understanding of AI/ML, DevOps, test automation, and modern software architectures
• Demonstrated success in driving organizational transformation and fostering innovation
• Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

For most roles, we require a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain our culture of excellence and ensure smooth operations, while also recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance. Remote or field-based positions will have different workplace arrangements which will be indicated in the job posting.
