Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented administrative professional to work closely with the Chair, Department Administrator and staff to assist with the day-to-day academic, administrative, and operational activities of the department.

The ideal candidate should be reliable, flexible, and organized with a demonstrated ability to complete required tasks in a timely manner. Excellent administrative and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. The position requires comprehensive administrative, organizational and operational skills, and the ability to work as a member of a team.

Duties and responsibilities for this full-time staff position will include:

  • Responsible for course scheduling each semester
  • Assist the Accountant with payments to vendors, reimbursements, honoraria, purchase orders, requisitions, and hold a UNM PCard
  • Updating department website and electronic bulletin board
  • Assist with managing departmental resources, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist with travel arrangements for faculty, guest speakers and graduate students
  • Support departmental events (e.g. UNM-PNM Math contest, conferences and other catered events)
  • Provide general administrative and operational support for departmental programs, faculty, and staff

****The final salary for this position is dependent upon total Education and Experience****

Conditions of Employment
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Professional experience in administrative support in a higher education setting.
  • Professional experience planning, scheduling, and coordinating calendars, meetings, and events.
  • Professional experience creating correspondence and reports
  • Ability to learn new software and/or university programs and systems
  • Experience with Chrome River and LoboMart
  • Ability to maintain records and documentation, track and analyze data, and generate reports
  • Ability to interact with various department personnel in a team environment
