Job Summary

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens seek a curious, community-minded, and creative intern to support programming that connects urban agriculture with cultural storytelling, public engagement, and food justice. This internship is designed specifically for Humanities Edge students interested in exploring the intersections of the humanities, sustainability, and community-based education. The intern will contribute to urban agriculture initiatives, Farmers Market programming, and Night Mights, Vizcayas signature evening events that blend art, history, and community. The internship is part of the Community Programs, Partnerships and Interpretation (CPPI) team, reporting to the Agriculture and Market Programs Manager. This internship is for Spring 2026 and will assist in the production of collaborative storytelling media focused on sharing and co-creating community memory.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with planning and facilitating interactive garden-based activities for school field trips and public programs.
  • Support the Vizcaya Village Farmers Market, including vendor coordination and visitor engagement, and storytelling around food systems.
  • Participate in Night Mights programming by helping design and implement hands-on experiences that connect agriculture, culture, and history.
  • Participate in the maintenance of garden spaces through planting, harvesting, and general upkeep.
  • Conduct research and contribute to interpretive materials that highlight the cultural and historical significance of urban agriculture.
  • Help develop content that connects food, farming, and humanities themes for diverse audiences.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of events and workshops.
  • Engage with community members and partners to promote inclusive and accessible programming.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a Humanities major (Art, Art History, English, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Modern Languages, etc.).

  • Effectiveness in planning, organizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated storytelling skills across traditional and digital media
  • Writing and editing skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of social media content production standards
  • Ability to work across different media: social, video, and audio
  • Skill in working with the WordPress CMS to post and optimize content
  • Some knowledge of cultural institutions or historic sites preferred
  • Skill with MS Office Suite and the media production apps in Adobe Creative Suite.

Student Disclosure

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday.
  • Location: Vizcaya Museum and Gardens at 3251 S. Miami Avenue, Miami, FL, 33129
  • One semester internship.
  • 10 to 12 weeks not to exceed 144 hours per semester
Advertised Salary

$18.00/hour

Working Condition(s)

Work is done in a museum setting, involving interaction with museum colleagues, work with a computer and photography equipment. Vizcaya is a non-smoking environment.
