General Statement of Job
Under occasional supervision, assists sworn officers with various duties and responds to non- emergency calls for assistance.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Assists sworn officers with various duties as assigned. Responds to non-emergency calls for assistance.
Assists police, fire and EMS personnel, crime victims and injured persons at emergency scenes as necessary.
Enforces traffic and parking ordinances; responds to minor traffic accidents. Issues citations and tickets as appropriate.
Processes crime scenes. Collects and labels evidence; photographs/diagrams crime/accident scenes; interviews witnesses and victims, etc.
Assists in preparing cases for court; provides court testimony as required.
Operates NCIC/FCIC computer to conduct criminal background and license plate checks and to enter/retrieve various other law enforcement information.
Assists with criminal investigation follow-ups as requested.
Performs various public service duties, including directing traffic at school crossings and during special events, providing police escort, assisting stranded motorists, providing crowd control at City events, etc.
Coordinates, implements and facilitates neighborhood crime watch programs for residential and business communities; attends crime watch group meetings. Answers calls from victims.
Performs computer Data Entry. Initiates case Investigative reports. Investigates Missing Person cases. Locates and collects evidence for cases. Requests and serves subpoenas to banks. Schedules appointments with victims. Submits evidence into evidence.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years experience in law enforcement, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. May be required to obtain NCIC/FCIC, CPR/First Responder, Community Service Officer, Parking Enforcement and/or other certifications as deemed appropriate by supervisors. Must submit to, and pass, a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check and must be able to obtain, and recertify as required, the appropriate Criminal Justice Security Awareness training. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Skill Requirements:
Has knowledge of the methods, organization, planning, management and supervision of a city law enforcement agency as reflected in the needs and requirements of the City. Is able to work under stressful conditions, occasionally involving personal risk or risk to others. Has knowledge of the structure, functions and inter-relationships of state and local law enforcement agencies. Has knowledge of up-to-date methods of law enforcement procedures. Has knowledge of legal rights of accused persons and law enforcement. Has knowledge of criminal behavior and methods of operation. Has knowledge of civil process.
Is able to analyze problems that arise on the job and recommend solutions. Is able to assemble and analyze information and make written and oral reports concisely, clearly and effectively. Is able to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information. Is able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of public and private groups and is persuasive in such communication.
Has sufficient knowledge of other City departments to communicate with their representatives as necessary in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Has the ability to deal courteously, yet firmly and effectively with the public in police situations. Has knowledge of the layout of local roads and of the locations and characteristics of the various neighborhoods.
Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations accurately and quickly. Is able to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Is able to perform duties under adverse environmental conditions such as excessive heat, cold, odors, smoke, fumes / toxic agents, wetness, noise, humidity, explosives, disease, violence.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone, etc. Must be able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, run. Must be physically fit. Must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry adults of varying weights.
Responsibilities:
Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with internal and external entities with whom the position interacts.
Performs described Essential Functions and related assignments efficiently and effectively in order to produce quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations.

Working Conditions:
Works in an office environment and outside in all types of weather.
