Inside the Role

Interns will gain knowledge and experience through exciting and real-life learning opportunities. Interns must work in accordance with DTNA's core values of passion, respect, integrity and discipline. Internship positions can be located at various DTNA locations across the US. We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.

This group within Vehicle Performance plans, executes, and reports out on Summer Test and Winter Test
activities as well as local testing that includes our Climatic Wind Tunnel and Cold Chamber. We are looking for an
engineering intern with interest in joining our Vehicle Thermodynamics and Integration (VTI) team who will focus on the validation of engineering designs for current and future products. The candidate will participate in our annual Summer test which will include full vehicle testing over the road and onsite validation including hands-on experience with instrumentation and vehicle experience.

Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.

Salary placement is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 - $29 per hour.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Support Design and Product Validation Engineering (PVE) engineers with vehicle configuration changes to electrical components, powertrain, drivetrain, chassis and cab systems
  • Instrument test vehicles for functional tests including Summer Test and other Over The Road (OTR) testing
  • Improve efficiencies in our procedures by reducing errors and downtime
  • Develop tools and processes that improve and optimize validation activities
  • Participate within PVE's VTI group in the area of thermodynamics including, but not limited to full vehicle component thermal profiles and exterior elemental exposure with current and future technology vehicles
  • Participate in our semi-annual Summer Test, which includes traveling with the team for testing
  • Develop and plan test activities with close collaboration with Design
  • Engineering and Powertrain colleagues.
  • Analyze test results and undertake root cause analysis of shortcomings requiring corrective action, propose changes to improve component design and/or vehicle system performance
  • Provide timely written and verbal status reports to management as well as internal and external customers.
  • Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program or higher from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June)
  • Position will require some travel during our annual Summer Test
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
