Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Client Directed Alternative Investment Manager is responsible for the direction and oversight of the Client Directed Alternative Investment Operations team at RBC. This team is responsible for facilitating client requests for our alternative investment platform assets including buys and sell orders, as well as the reconciliation and maintenance of alternative investment positions custodied at RBC.

What will you do?

  • Lead, inspire, and engage department team members to deliver exceptional service, exceed SLAs, innovate to drive efficiency, and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Supervise and direct time sensitive, complex, and/or highly specialized daily workflows to ensure department service levels are met.
  • Provide high level customer service for clients of both our RBC Wealth management business lines. Collaborate with internal and external resources to ensure a smooth and efficient client experience.
  • Familiarize yourself with industry regulations, trends, and technologies in the Alternative Investment space. Manage risk through effective controls and ensuring processes are performed according to prescribed regulations and established policies and procedures.
  • Conduct operations process oversight on complex exception-based and/or highly specialized processes to ensure adherence to department procedures, risks are mitigated, and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Reduce risk, increase efficiencies, or enrich customer service by reviewing existing processes and for potential process changes or additions and/or system modifications.
  • Analyze and resolve escalated issues. Address escalated questions independently, seeking assistance from Director or other Operations resources as appropriate.
  • Provide work direction and coaching team members on leadership skills, processes, systems, and best practices.
  • Provide training, coaching, recognition, and development for the team members, fostering teamwork and planning for succession.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • A strong commitment to delivering the highest standards of client service to Financial Advisors
  • 4-year degree from an accredited university or equivalent or High school diploma or equivalent AND 5+ years of securities, banking, technology, and/or job specific industry experience
  • 3+ years prior securities, banking, technology, and/or job specific related industry experience
  • Securities license 7 or 99 (or able to obtain license within 120 days)
  • 2+ years demonstrated and sound managerial experience leading and managing a team.
  • Strong accountability mindset which takes responsibility for all work activities and personal actions.
  • Ability to recognize employee's successes and development opportunities and coach employees through challenges.

Nice-to-have

  • Fully proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with an ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Previous experience with Alternative Investments and knowledge of Private Equity, Private Credit, Exchange Funds, and Hedge Funds
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Broker Dealer operations and systems.
  • Advanced problem identification, analytical and resolution skills required to support escalated issue resolution and/or oversight requirements associated with exception-based complex processes.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $65,000 - $115,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
