Our Georgia-Pacific facility in Palatka, FL is seeking a Fiberline Process Technician. This position is an opportunity for a motivated hard-working individual to learn and advance their knowledge of the paper making process. Our Team

Fiberline Technicians work a rotating 12-hour shift on a schedule that will rotate days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours. Our work environment is primarily outdoors or in non-climate-controlled locations that can be hot, humid, and/or cold.

The Fiberline department processes raw chips into pulp used on the mill's paper machines. This chemical-intensive operation includes the turpentine recovery process and generation of chlorine dioxide in the on-site R10 generator.

As such, this position requires employees to wear PPE in addition to millwide PPE requirements. These items include, but are not limited to, chemical suits, chemical/thermal jackets, and a face shield. Due to a respirator needing to be used daily, we require candidates to have a clean-shaven face to ensure the respirator can correctly seal to the face.

Starting pay rate: $28.27/hour

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Troubleshoot process equipment, including pumps, valves, filter screens, and process flows
  • Perform routine quality tests in a chemical lab environment
  • Unload HAZMAT railcars containing process chemicals
  • Load turpentine into chemical tanker trucks
  • Oversee the chemical unloading process for all tanker truck deliveries to the department
  • Perform Lock Out Tag Out procedures
  • Conduct collaborative safety discussions with maintenance employees and/or contractors to ensure all workers understand the hazards associated with their work areas and job scope.
  • Serve as the eyes, ears, and hands for a remote operating center throughout the department
  • Perform daily/weekly equipment inspections and record the results in various electronic software systems
  • Proactively assist other employees throughout the department and facility
  • Be responsible for advancing your knowledge and skills through the utilization of learning materials and other team members

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years or more of experience troubleshooting machinery or processes
  • Basic understanding of energy control / lockout tagout procedures
  • Experience using a computer, tablet, or smartphone in a work environment

What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience working around pumps, motors, and conveyor systems
  • Experience tracing process lines in an industrial environment
  • Hands-on mechanical skills in an industrial, agricultural, military, or automotive setting
  • Previous hazardous or chemical operator experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Teams, Word, and/or SharePoint
  • Prior experience in writing work requests based on the results of a visual inspection
