Responsibilities

Roxbury is currently hiring a full-time Recreation Therapist to work with our patients on our adult and adolescent psychiatric units.

Roxbury Treatment Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc., has been a beacon of hope and healing for 40 years, serving those struggling with behavioral health and substance use issues. Located in Shippensburg, PA., our 112-bed behavioral health facility offers acute psychiatric, detoxification, and rehabilitation services for adults as well as, an adolescent inpatient psychiatric program for youth ages 13-17. We also have two substance use disorder outpatient offices in Carlisle and Chambersburg. JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for completing an Activity Therapy Assessment for all new patients within 72 hours to understand social, physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning of patients ranging from adolescents through geriatric.
  • Facilities and documents group therapy and activities using recreational therapy skills; demonstrates knowledge of group therapy dynamics and leadership
  • Actively participates in the treatment planning process utilizing results from patient activity therapy assessment to inform treatment needs

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Therapy or in a Creative Art Therapy field (i.e., Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Dance Therapy or Psychodrama); or a major in a related therapeutic discipline including occupational therapy. Master's degree, preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of experience developing and implementing recreational treatment plans and assessments for patients; knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
