Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a Public Benefits Supervisor. The successful candidate will join the Public Benefits team within the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. Job Summary

The Public Benefits Supervisor works closely with Loudoun County residents to support access to public assistance programs while also guiding and developing staff. This position oversees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). The supervisor will also have responsibility for a designated specialty area, which may include Long-Term Services and Supports, Training and Quality Control, Energy Assistance, Refugee Cash Assistance, or Public Benefits Customer Service.

This role provides direct, daily supervision of a team of approximately 6-8 eligibility staff responsible for processing new applications and managing ongoing public benefits cases. The supervisor monitors service delivery to ensure compliance with state timeliness and accuracy standards through daily report review and case monitoring. In addition, this position provides on-site supervisory support for customers visiting or contacting the agency.

Additional responsibilities include staff training, performance planning, collaboration with community partners, and supporting staff professional growth. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF program principles, policies, and practices.
  • Ability to interpret complex public assistance policy and ensure case accuracy and timeliness.
    Experience developing and delivering presentations and trainings.
  • Strong supervisory and administrative skills, including performance evaluation and coaching.
  • Excellent communication skills with staff, customers, and community partners.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with professionalism and remain calm under pressure.
  • Experience researching customer service issues and recommending solutions.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field related; three (3) years of professional experience in a social services public benefits department including one (1) year supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualification(s):

  • Bi-lingual

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Pass pre-employment background check including criminal, credit, CPS, and DMV checks.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • Hold (or obtain, if so permitted) licenses required by law for assigned position.
  • Hold and or obtain additional certifications required by the Department.
