Role Overview:



  • This role entails providing overarching occupational health and safety expertise to one of Apex's key clients, a regional transit authority.
  • The incumbent will serve as an Industrial Hygiene / Safety Specialist (IH) supporting the client with managing IH and safety related projects across their footprint with an initial focus on identifying and/or assessing possible confined spaces, installing labels on each located confined space, supervising confined space entry protocols, and documentation.
  • This role will be a part-time variable position based on the work load of the client and associated project needs. The position reports to the Apex Program Manager.
  • The incumbent shall have a strong overall understanding of all that is Industrial Hygiene and will also provide project leadership and project management functions. Perhaps most importantly, the incumbent will be an energetic and motivated self-starter with the initiative to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve results.


Your Responsibilities as an Industrial Hygienist:



  • Confined space entry program support
  • Provide oversight and technical support for confined space projects and industrial hygiene related projects
  • Safety oversight and documentation
  • Support development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
  • Risk and Hazard research and identification
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements
  • Serve as a resource for regulatory compliance and emerging occupational health standards
  • Industrial Hygiene program support (e.g., air monitoring and exposure assessments)


What we're looking for:



  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or related experience.
  • 10+ years' related work experience
  • Experience with confined space assessments, confined space entry and record of associated training
  • Good interpersonal skills with people and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations
  • Deep knowledge of vertical standards and program management.
  • Experience with contractor oversight and safety protocols
  • Valid driver's license required and clean driving record.


Individual Occupational Skill Set



  • Safety experience with a Regional Transit Authority or other rail operations
  • Confined space entry oversight and implementation
  • Proven experience overseeing and documenting field safety oversight
  • A strong background in occupational health and safety sciences such as: safety, confined space, worker exposure, chemistry, physics, toxicology, radiation, or other disciplines.
  • Ability to conduct and lead audits, inspections and investigations and coordinates resolution of issues.
  • Work in close routine collaboration with the customer and project team on specified tasks.
  • Implementation of control measures using the hierarchy of controls
  • Emergency Preparedness and response (e.g., established emergency action and evacuation plans, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills to document and relay important information to the team.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability
