Managing Director - Practice Lead, AI and Technology Advisory
What you will be doing: This role extends beyond technical leadership to encompass two parallel transformations: advancing AI capabilities for Premier's healthcare clients while simultaneously evolving Premier's own advisory methodology and culture. Drawing from experience building practices from concept to market leadership, you'll establish the frameworks / methodologies, talent strategies, and cross-functional collaboration models that position Premier as the definitive authority in AI-driven healthcare transformation. Success will be measured by the advisory practice's ability to grow revenue, scale expertise, replicate outcomes across diverse healthcare environments, and integrate into how Premier's member organizations approach digital innovation. You will tackle critical questions about measuring AI operational effectiveness, evaluating healthcare technology (AI) vendors, and developing reusable solution patterns. Finally, you'll lead strategic engagements while building the scalable internal practices that enable Premier's broader advisory team to deliver consistent, measurable healthcare outcomes powered by deep AI expertise across our member organizations. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Innovation
- Establish technical standards and evaluation criteria for healthcare AI solutions
- Monitor and translate latest AI research from top-tier sources into practical applications
- Design and validate measurement frameworks for AI tool effectiveness across different healthcare domains
- Generate thought leadership content establishing Premier's market position
- Lead technical due diligence for healthcare systems evaluating AI vendors and solutions
- Conduct deep technical assessments of vendor platforms, integration capabilities, and roadmaps
- Develop vendor technical assessment methodologies that cover the variety of choices facing healthcare institutions
- Create proof-of-concept solutions using AI-assisted development tools
- Design and prototype solutions with clients using AI-assisted development
- Architect custom AI solutions that achieve measurable improvements in operational metrics
- Create technical customer roadmaps for AI implementation and optimization
- Build reusable solution components and frameworks enabling scalable use across multiple customers
- Partner with existing Advisory teams to enhance their capabilities with AI solutions
Advisory Development & Strategic Growth
- Develop scalable engagement methodologies and repeatable frameworks that enable adoption across Premier's member / client network
- Create talent acquisition and development strategies to build a world-class team of AI advisors and technical specialists
- Establish partnership ecosystem with leading AI vendors, research institutions, and technology providers to accelerate solution delivery
- Design and implement revenue models that align practice growth with measurable client outcomes and Premier's strategic objectives
Success Metrics & Growth Targets
Financial and Operational Oversight
Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient resource utilization and on-time, within-scope project delivery. Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success, client satisfaction, and business impact. Implement best practices for project management, risk mitigation, and quality control across consulting engagements.
Required Qualifications Work Experience: Years of Applicable Experience - 12 or more years
Education: Bachelors (Required)
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in software architecture, system design, or technical consulting
- Experience with Python and understanding of modern AI/ML frameworks
- 2+ years experience with the latest generative AI, AI agents, and ML technologies
- Strong understanding of LLMs, RAG architectures, and modern AI system design patterns
- Proven experience with AI-assisted development tools and prompt engineering
- Experience evaluating and architecting large-scale enterprise software solutions
- Track record of guiding customers with proofs-of-concept that evolve into production systems
- Demonstrated ability translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and related ML operations
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
Preferred Qualifications
- Track record of delivering industry-specific results
- Understanding of enterprise revenue cycles and operations
- Familiarity with decision support systems or healthcare analytics platforms
- Experience with enterprise compliance requirements (SOX, HIPAA, etc.)
- Experience with data interoperability standards
- Strategic technology advisor to C-suite executives on digital transformation initiatives
- Track record of building new business capabilities that generate significant revenue growth and market differentiation
- Experience driving cultural transformation and capability development across large, established organizations
- Proven ability to establish and manage ecosystem partnerships that accelerate business growth and client value delivery
- Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred

Travel Requirements: Travel 61-80% within the US

Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $205,000 - $380,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
