Associate Vice President, Strategic Partnerships

One of the largest and most acclaimed institutions of higher learning in the world, the University of California attracts some of the world's greatest minds, and those who will follow in their footsteps. It has produced Nobel and Pulitzer Prize recipients and over 150 years of groundbreaking research that continues to transform the world. The University of California Office of the President is the headquarters to its 10 campuses, six academic health centers, and three national laboratories.

University of California Health comprises six academic health centers, 21 health professional schools, a Global Health Institute, and systemwide services that improve the health of patients within and beyond California. UC's hospitals are all ranked among the best in California and its medical and health professional schools are nationally ranked in their respective areas. UC Health is committed to increasing access to care and improving the health of Californians. The UC Health team is an open, collaborative, and productive community that respects the potential of all individuals to make a positive contribution.

In this newly created role, the Associate Vice President Strategic Partnerships (AVP) will build and lead a team and forge partnerships that ensure the sustainability and vitality of the UC Health system. The AVP will collaborate with key stakeholders across UC Health, including campus health leadership, chancellors, and regents, and will develop and realize a systemwide strategy that involves building key relationships with state and federal government agencies, Medi-Cal managed care, trade associations, county-operated health system plans, county and local governments, federally qualified health centers, and other relevant local leadership.

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of UC Health, the AVP will oversee the execution of UC Health's strategic partnerships, aligning the policy and regulatory agenda of UC's campuses to support its partnerships. This leader will work collaboratively within the UC Health division and with UC's academic health centers on initiatives that optimize reimbursement and support the financial sustainability of the UC academic medical centers, community hospitals, and clinics as safety net providers serving patients across the state, particularly for Medi-Cal and Medicare-enrolled patients. A key goal is to support regional strategies, secure resources, and identify opportunities for realizing high-impact collaborations that would reliably finance health care services, enabling each academic medical center and its community partners to provide services to all who need care.

The Associate Vice President Strategic Partnerships will bring a decade's executive leadership in a complex health care organization, trade association, or state/federal agency leading large-scale, cross-organizational efforts in Medi-Cal and Medicare initiatives. With solid business acumen for building and leading a high-performing team, a record of developing mutually beneficial strategic partnerships, and expertise building cross-system collaborations in public health insurance financing, population health, public health, or state-serving systems, this leader will have proven ability to design and implement strategies that further the goals of the health system and the communities it serves. Action- and results-oriented, with high EQ and excellent research and relationships skills for developing, advocating, and influencing policy agendas, this leader will be passionate, committed to continuous improvement and the service of the public, and able to inspire diverse groups to coalesce around a common goal - a sustainable, functioning system committed to serving the medical needs of all Californians.
