Position Summary

Under the direction of the IT Manager of the UCLA Police Department, the incumbent is responsible for the technical support and proper use of police department-specific enterprise business applications and systems, gathering requirements, data analysis, server management and support, query and report design, ensuring compliance with Criminal Justice Information Systems, as well as handling general support for end-user and department-managed computers, mobile devices, printers, and in-vehicle police-specific hardware. The incumbent will manage application support for numerous police department-specific applications. The incumbent will be responsible for updating police department-specific application user documentation with changes and enhancements to systems, and communicating changes to application business users. Work will be monitored through scheduled meetings, client feedback on support and services, written annual evaluations, and progress reports.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years Desktop support (Required) And
  • 3+ years Server and application support (Required)
  • Experience conducting escalated, broad technical support including hardware and software tests, analyzing test results and producing reports of conclusions and recommendations. (Required)
  • Experience in use and knowledge of networking protocols such as DHCP, TCP / IP, etc. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in configuring, troubleshooting and supporting escalated end user client systems including desktop, laptop and mobile computing devices. (Required)
  • Broad knowledge of enterprise system functions, dependencies and interactions and ability to use this information to troubleshoot. (Required)
  • Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. (Required)
  • Experience developing and administering formal technical training to users at a variety of levels. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. (Required)
  • General knowledge of other areas of IT. Intermediate knowledge of IT-related products and services. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of desktop, business / technical support systems, and server internals, especially as needed for troubleshooting and isolating issues. (Required)
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and judgment to delegate / escalate issues appropriately. (Required)
  • Writing skills to prepare documents, memos, correspondence, and technical documentation for complex processes and applications that are clearly written, well organized and structured, concise, logical, grammatically correct, and professional in appearance. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of unit's business processes. Working knowledge of organization computer requirements, recommendations and policies including security standards. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of law enforcement vendors, regulations, and applications such as: - Justice Data Interface Controller (JDIC) - Axon - Los Angeles County Regional Identification System (LACRIS) - Genetec Security Center - Computer Aided Dispatching - Records Management System - Microsoft Office products - Smartsheet - Power BI (Preferred)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required)
  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
  • Clery Act: The position is a designated CSA (Campus Security Authority) under Clery Act requirements.

    Sensitive information includes but is not limited to law enforcement data, employee and student records, health and patient records, financial data, strategic plans, proprietary information, and any other sensitive or non-public information learned during the course and scope of employment. Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations. (Required)
  • Ability to work periodically on weekends or evenings for system maintenance so as not to interrupt operations during peak times. (Required)
  • Ability to pass a police background check for professional staff employees and maintain a clean criminal record. (Required)
