Summary:

Responsible for learning the skills necessary to assist or lead with manufacturing of neat and modified asphalt products via PPA or PMA, daily quality control activities associated with production, tracking and maintaining raw material inventories, meeting shipment and delivery schedules, receipt handling via truck and rail, testing of product per QA/QC program, following the facility housekeeping objectives, ensuring assets are properly maintained, and Sunoco HES policies are understood and followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

* Assists and performs inspections throughout the terminal

* Climb tanks for tank gauge measurement to verify automatic systems

* Performs housekeeping throughout terminal

* Performs maintenance tasks (rail, pumps, motors, mixers, valves, etc.) which involve valve and pump packing

* Loads and unloads carrier trucks

* Climb rail cars for dome lid access

* Applies steam and unloading lines to rail cars for heating and offloading

* Unloads railcars

* Performs paperwork involving basic math skills for product movements and inventory reporting

* Performs in tank blending and tank to tank transfers

* Trains new carriers on truck loading and off-loading systems

* Performs rail movements with use of Track-Mobile

* Performs calculations for product movements per customer blend formulations

* Performs PPA (Polyphosphoric Acid) and PMA (Polymer Modified Asphalt) production

* Assists and performs lab duties to meet QA/QC requirements

* Communicate lab test results to customers technical group

* Assists and develops JSA (Job Safety Analysis) for PTW (Permit to Work) writing

* Pull and ship asphalt samples for COA Testing and State DOT Binder Building

* Forklift certified for warehouse operations

* Familiar with skid-loader operations

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Minimum Requirements:

  • No experience required

  • Pipeline, Refinery, and Terminal experience preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent PC skills, with proficiency in Microsoft products

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to independently proof work for accuracy

  • Expected to exercise good judgment

  • Expected to maintain good working relationships with all Company personnel, customers and contract personnel

  • Ability to manage time and scheduling to meet appropriate deadlines

  • Ability to work successfully in stressful situations and manage multiple tasks

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Knowledge, understanding and ability to comply with all Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Company regulations, policies, guidelines

  • Ability to use hand and powered tools and other equipment such as shovels and rakes and operation(s) of fork-lift, skid loader, and man-lifts.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, basic reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations

Physical Demands:

  • Climbing at least 60 feet on stairs at least a few times per week.

  • Climbing at least 7 to 11 feet on ladders or scaffolding at least a few times per month.

  • Lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. at least a few times a week, with the expectations that an employee can lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance, when needed.

  • Carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for up to 50 feet on a weekly basis.

  • Walking 100 yards or more over 10 times throughout the day, with the expectations that employees could walk regularly up to 300 yards at a time for a total of 2 miles or more during a shift.

  • Walking on steep inclines for up to 15 minutes at a time.

  • Working in a crouching position several times per day for up to an hour at a time.

  • Bending and stooping several times per day for up to 30 minutes at a time.

  • Bending and twisting for up to 30 minutes at a time, including manually digging with shovels.

  • Standing in one place for up to an hour at a time.

  • Sitting for up to two hours at a time.

  • Ability to wear all appropriate personal protection equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, flame-resistant clothing, hearing protection, respirator/breathing apparatus, and/or fall protection, as required by the job activities.

  • Ability to use or operate the hand tools, power tools, precision tools, measurement devices and other tools or equipment required by the job activities.

Working Conditions and Requirements:

  1. Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions
  2. Work in and around industrial and construction settings, which may include hazardous products, processes, materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  3. Frequent heavy lifting with and without assistance
  4. Work on and around equipment and facilities that require knowledge of and adherence to safe work procedures and practices
  5. Subject to call-outs to respond to operational issues and emergencies after working hours, at night, and on weekends and holidays
  6. Reliable attendance at work
  7. Occasional overnight travel may be required
