Role Summary

The Facilities Technician is a crucial role responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational support of Rivian's facilities in Normal, Illinois. This position requires a broad range of technical skills to ensure the safe, efficient, and functional operation of building systems. The Facilities Technician will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair issues related to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, interpret wiring diagrams, manage small projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and contribute to the overall upkeep and improvement of Rivian's infrastructure. This role also includes the responsibility of creating purchase orders for necessary materials and services.


Responsibilities

  • Electrical Troubleshooting and Repair:
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in industrial kitchen equipment, 120V power distribution, and other support equipment.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs, including replacing fuses, ballasts, and outlets.
  • Interpret and work from electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Assist licensed electricians with more complex electrical work.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM):
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules for various building systems and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of PM activities and identify trends or recurring issues.
  • Proactively address potential problems to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Utilize and update existing CMMS
  • Project Management (Small to Medium Scale):
  • Manage small to medium-scale facility-related projects, including vendor coordination, scheduling, and budget adherence.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and assist in the selection process.
  • Oversee the work of external contractors to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Communicate project progress to the Facilities Manager and stakeholders.
  • Time Management and Prioritization:
  • Effectively manage workload, prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact, and meet deadlines.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related requests and emergencies.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential issues.
  • Purchase Order Creation:
  • Identify and procure necessary materials, parts, and services for maintenance and projects.
  • Create and process purchase orders in accordance with Rivian's procurement policies.
  • Track orders and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases and associated documentation.
  • General Facility Support:
  • Conduct regular building inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards.
  • Perform minor building repairs, such as painting, patching, and hardware adjustments.
  • Assist with facility setups and breakdowns for meetings and events.
  • Respond to employee requests and concerns related to facility operations.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • HVAC Maintenance and Repair:
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance (PMs) on small HVAC systems, including but not limited to filters, belts, coils, and condensate drains.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in HVAC equipment (e.g., air handlers, chillers, pumps, thermostats).
  • Perform minor repairs on HVAC systems and coordinate with external contractors for major repairs.
  • Monitor HVAC system performance and identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.
  • Plumbing Maintenance and Repair:
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and drainage.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, and fixture malfunctions.
  • Coordinate with external plumbers for complex repairs or installations.
  • Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and basic electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues in these systems.
  • Ability to interpret and work from wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience in performing preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage small to medium-scale projects.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to create and process purchase orders.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., email, work order systems).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and perform physical tasks as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications in HVAC (e.g., EPA Section 608), plumbing, or electrical trades.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with building management systems (BMS).
  • Experience with lean maintenance principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor environments, including potential exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Illinois Based Applicants: $30.00- $34.88 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
