Protein Science Principal Research Associate (Protein Engineering, Protein Production)

General/Position Summary

The Protein Sciences Principal Research Associate provides laboratory support in advancement of Protein Engineering pipeline with conducting cloning workflows and plasmid preparation. They work closely with protein engineers to provide support with yeast transformation, yeast cultures and characterization by flow cytometry. They provide support for mammalian expressions and high-throughput purification and biophysical characterization of proteins as needed.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute and troubleshoot molecular cloning workflows spanning plasmid assembly to plasmid preparation at mini- and midi- scales
  • Perform small-scale yeast transformations and culturing
  • Support characterization of yeast displayed proteins by flow cytometry
  • Support large-scale yeast transformations with DNA libraries
  • Support lab operations and equipment purchasing if needed
  • Perform high-throughput purification of proteins and protein-analytics using UV-Vis Spectroscopy, analytical SEC (UPLC-HPLC through Empower software), endotoxin tests, SDS-PAGE, and western blotting
  • Manage protein inventory in the protein database and Protein Science freezers
  • Provide protein dilutions and protein aliquots to immunology group and pharmacology group as needed
  • Deliver verbal and presentation updates on cloning, expression, purification and analytics to the Protein Science Team.
  • Ensure that a complete and timely record of experiments, constructs, plasmid preps is maintained in both the protein database and electronic lab notebooks

Required Education Level

  • Master's Degree (or equivalent degree) in cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or bio/chemical engineering and 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent degree) in cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or bio/chemical engineering and 6 + years of relevant industry experience

Required Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience using electronic lab notebooks, cloning software such as snap gene
  • Experience in working in a highly collaborative laboratory which is timeline-driven and result orientated team is a must
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture wok to transiently express and purify recombinant proteins is a must
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA cloning is a must

Pay Range:

$88,000 - $132,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
