Overview

The Paramedic responds to both emergency and nonemergency calls, delivering skilled care in fastmoving and routine situations alike. The role includes completing daily and weekly operational tasks that keep ambulances and medivans clean, stocked, and ready for service. During Advanced Life Support calls, the Paramedic provides clear direction and strong clinical leadership to EMTs, ensuring coordinated, effective patient care.


Qualifications

  • ICS100: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA - within 6 months

  • Licensed Paramedic - Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)

  • ICS800: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA - within 6 months

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) - within 1 year

  • Driver's License - Illinois Secretary of State (ILSOS)

  • ICS200: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA - within 6 months

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA) - within 1 year

  • Hazardous Materials Awareness (HazMat) - FEMA - within 6 months

  • ICS700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) - FEMA - within 6 months

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) - within 30 days

  • Introduction to Emergency Response to Terrorism (ERT) - FEMA - within 6 months


Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency calls and provides immediate care to ill and injured individuals.

  • Checks and monitors ambulance readiness before each shift.

  • Cleans ambulances, utility vehicles, and crew quarters daily.

  • Clearly communicates crew and vehicle position at all times.

  • Provides direction to EMTs during ambulance calls.

  • Transports patients using a wheelchair van when needed.

  • Manages patient care during transport to the hospital.

  • Assesses blood glucose levels and provides treatment when appropriate.

  • Monitors heart rhythms, interprets 12lead ECGs, and provides ACLS interventions when necessary.

  • Performs CPR.

  • Administers medications through IV, IO, IM, SQ, and IN routes.

  • Intubates adult and pediatric patients.

  • Manages airway during transport.

  • Assists with outofhospital childbirth and manages care of both mother and newborn.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $21.25per hour - $35.49per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
