What you'll do:

This is a management position to oversee all aspects of the Engineered Solutions businessunitof Olympus Controls. In this capacity, the Design Engineering Manager will act as a player/coach providing management duties, while also taking on portions of design activities with a hands-on approach to problem solving and working with the team to generatecompletesolutions for customers.

This position calls for a well-organized, self-motivatedperson, whoenjoys a variety of concurrent assignments and a high degree of latitude and accountability while working with technology and people. It requires enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, resiliency, excellent oral and written communication skills, and professional and courteous personality.Additional details about what you will be doing include:

Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managethe scope,scheduleand budget of design projects
  • Assessthetechnical and financialfeasibility of potential design projects
  • Working closely with our Sales and Operations teams todeliver world class solutionstoour clients
  • Accountable for the Engineering Team's activities and effectiveness
  • Serveas a liaison between engineering team members and upper management
  • Provideleadership and guidance to the Engineered Solutions team
  • Maintain and adjust the cost quoting process tomeet or exceeddesired project gross margins.
  • Establish andmaintainefficient workflow and processes acrossall engineering functions,to operations, quality,and the customer

Engineering Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work withSales Engineers andCustomers to defineprojects specifications, potential solution pathways, timelines, ROI, andproject road maps
  • Prepare Statements of Work (SOW)/proposals fornewbusinessopportunities
  • Implement and teach Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles todemonstratecapability and reproducibility in the system output whenrequired
  • Apply and lead teams in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) & Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) processes during the design process
  • Producedetailed mechanical designs and design concepts
  • Master of root cause analysis principles in troubleshooting automated systems
  • Work collaboratively with the Engineered Solutions teamand Operationstoingestbuild-to-print projects from customers and/or in-house Prototype Engineers
  • Implement process controlsand efficiency measures
  • Travel may be necessary from time to time, < 10%

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Engineering degree or higherinamechatronics discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Software)
  • 10+years of engineeringand 2+ years ofmanagement experiencerequired
  • Demonstrated success in bespoke designthroughdeployment
  • Experience in product development(PDP, NPI)strategiesi.e.House of Quality, Phase Gate,Sprintetc.
  • Demonstrated application of Six Sigma process control, LEAN and/or DFSS
  • Computer literacy and Microsoft Office experiencearea must
  • Experience in PDM (i.e., SolidWorks PDM), ERP (SAP preferred), CAD software systems (SolidWorks is a plus)
  • Experience with mechatronics (i.e., sensors, vision, motion control, PLC, robotics, safety)
  • Experience in designing or understanding of automation controls (i.e., electrical schematics, automation control panels, PLC's)
  • Understanding principles of software code (robot, vision programing) is a plus
  • Experience reading mechanical and electrical drawings isa must
