UMKC Bloch School's Business Administration Department

Job Description

This brand-new position was created to expand experiential learning opportunities and strengthen partnerships with industry. The Experiential-Learning Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering high-impact learning experiences for students enrolled at UMKC's Bloch School of Management. You will collaborate with faculty, community partners, and students to create application-based learning opportunities that prepare students for career success.

Mission Alignment: This position directly supports the Bloch School's mission: to use experience-based learning to develop problem-solvers and entrepreneurial leaders who can leverage technology for a changing world. We provide pathways to career success, engage with partners from across the community, and build thought-leadership to support all of our stakeholders.

As this is a new role, you will help shape workflows and best practices, offering input on program design and implementation. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative team that values innovation and shared success. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys building programs from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and Enhance Programs:

Manage existing experiential learning activities such as consulting projects, internships, service-learning, simulations, field-based experiences, and capstone courses. Ensure programs run smoothly, meet learning objectives, and align with course outcomes. Provide logistical and administrative support, including scheduling and technology setup.

  • Develop New Opportunities:

Identify emerging trends and collaborate with faculty to design innovative experiential learning experiences-such as case competitions, real-world client projects, and problem-solving workshops-that integrate both in-person and online modalities. Leverage digital tools (e.g., learning management systems and virtual simulations) to enhance engagement.

  • Engage Students and Faculty:

Prepare students for professional interactions through workshops on communication, professionalism, and project management. Support faculty in integrating experiential learning into courses by offering best practices, training, and guidance on educational technology.

  • Build Partnerships:

Cultivate relationships with businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and community organizations to expand experiential learning opportunities. Serve as a primary liaison between external partners and faculty to ensure meaningful collaboration and clear project scopes.

  • Manage Logistics and Assessment:

Oversee scheduling, partner communications, event coordination, and resource planning. Implement assessment strategies (reflections, surveys, peer/partner feedback) to measure program impact, track engagement, and inform continuous improvement. Maintain accessible resources and templates for students and faculty.

  • Promote Programs:

Increase awareness through digital marketing, social media, newsletters, and school web content. Organize events (virtual networking sessions, panels, showcases) to highlight student achievements, industry collaborations, and program outcomes.

Shift

Typical office hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Some flexed work hours outside of "normal" shift hours expected based on event scheduling/ planning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; one (1) year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, education, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in program management, event coordination, student services, or employer relations.

  • Proficiency with educational and collaboration technologies.
  • Higher education employment experience is preferred but not required.
