Job Summary


Involves patient care services for a range of mental health disorders, often severe including major depressive disorders, paranoia, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. Settings may be inpatient, outpatient or clinical research studies. Patient care may be provided by a combination of licensed clinicians, as well as counselors and crisis intervention specialists. Patients typically require routine assistance, treatment or a specialized and controlled environment. Primary emphasis on treatment and attempt where possible to help patients control their own lives in the outside world, with the use of a combination of psychiatric drugs and psychotherapy.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $32.09 - $68.87 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

Behavioral health care services at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals emphasize a collaborative family centered approach and interface with all systems of care that serve children birth to 21. We are committed to delivering culturally accountable, evidence based, and trauma informed behavioral health care to the children in our community, including those with the highest risk and need, and those who are marginalized or underserved. Behavioral health care services aim to be the premier behavioral health care institution for children in northern California, with proficiency in clinical care, training, research and evaluation and policy.

Required Qualifications


  • Masters or doctoral degree in related area and 1+ related work experience; and/or equivalent experience
  • License eligible in counseling field
  • Skill in providing individual, group, and family therapy
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.
  • Basic knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Effective verbal and written communication. Demonstrated active listening and persuasion and counseling skills.
  • Skills in collaborating with interdisciplinary team and healthcare providers.
  • Knowledge of business software and electronic / medical records systems used in behavioral health clinics/ clinical departments.
