Drilling Department Manager

Responsibilities

  • Management and oversight of the drilling team and overall drilling operations, including safety management, training, and equipment management
  • Managing the team responsible for scheduling and performing boring layout and drilling, field testing, obtaining permits, and performing out of territory IOB work for other ECS offices
  • Responsible for the financial performance of the group as well as day to day technical and operation department duties
  • Train and supervise both existing and new drilling team members
  • Manage drilling services for continued growth with a strong emphasis on client development and productivity
  • Provide overall operational and technical support for exploration, seismic testing, and boring layout processes
  • Manage all administrative and field activities for the drilling department
  • Review employee time and expense sheets ensuring that all hours worked and all field activities and expenses are correctly recorded and coded for billing
  • Responsible for department vehicle and drill rig maintenance and any documentation
  • Ensure all company, client, and project specific procedures, standards, etc., have been communicated to the drilling department personnel and are implemented
  • Promotes safe working practices on all projects ensuring proper PPE is used
  • Ensure all productivity goals and deadlines are met for the department
  • Responsible for recruiting personnel and maintaining appropriate staff levels with approval by your supervisor
  • Manage and maintain sufficient inventory of all department supplies and equipment using inventory tracking software including numbers on hand, when and where purchased, and cost
  • Provide training to staff personnel in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Prepares cost estimates for department purchases
  • Prepare and coordinate field testing schedule with subcontractors
  • Review and negotiate subcontractor proposals, invoices, and terms and conditions
  • Train staff on field testing and sampling techniques, data reduction, and data interpretation
  • Additional responsibilities may include construction materials testing and geotechnical project management, report reviews, proposal preparation, managing budget proposals and invoices, and participation in marketing our services by maintaining and developing client interactions

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related experience geared toward drilling, managing projects, and drill crews
  • HS Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Class A CDL preferred
