Position Summary
This position will provide support to law students (day and evening), beginning in their first year, on study skills, critical and analytical thinking, exam strategies, time management techniques, and will prepare students and graduates for the bar exam. The Specialist will teach the first-year Expert Learning and upper-level bar preparation courses. The Specialist will also work with the Vice Dean and the Associate Dean of Part-Time Programs to provide academic advising and counseling with a diverse range of students, including readmitted students, students on academic probation, and students assigned to the mandate program and may be responsible for assigning this group of students to other Specialists for academic advising after academic determinations are made each semester.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Academic Achievement Team to develop and update the curriculum for the Expert Learning course and the bar preparation courses.
  • Work directly with recent graduates in the bar preparation program.
  • Counsel and assist law students and graduates on law school and bar exam success.
  • Review and provide meaningful feedback on practice exams and other formative assessment exercises submitted by law students and graduates in Expert Learning, bar preparation courses, and supplemental bar exam programming.
  • Work closely with the Office of Student Life to support accommodated students during the exam period.
  • Work in conjunction with the Registrar's office and assist with exam administration for AABP programming.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
    • Current or previous admission to a state bar in the United States.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle situations with sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor students.
    • Strong writing, communication, and public speaking skills.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in academic support, academic advising, and bar preparation.
    • Past law school teaching experience.


    The budgeted salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 annually. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
