OVERVIEW:

The CE Teaching Lead is responsible for teaching daily core values through storytelling, skits, music, and games to support the spiritual formation of campers and staff. In collaboration with the CE Media Lead and DYSs (camp pastors), the CE Teaching Lead plans, develops, and executes daily teachings, chapel services, campfire devotions, and works with the camp band to guide the overall faith formation of the camp community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Teach daily core values through storytelling, skits, music, and games to support spiritual formation
  • Plan and lead morning chapel services, ensuring age-appropriate teachings aligned with daily themes
  • Coordinate camper worship for chapel and campfires, including music and running skits
  • Lead Jesus Theater performances and collaborate with DYSs and CE Media Lead on spiritual programming
  • Support cabin devotions by providing resources, guidance, and feedback to Unit and Cabin Leaders
  • Prepare and deliver campfire and cabin devotions as assigned
  • Create interactive learning spaces for staff focused on spiritual growth
  • Encourage staff spiritual development through prayer, conversation, and shared experiences
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of chapel, AV box, and CE rooms
  • Assist with evening programs, including setup, creative input, and leading songs
  • Participate in opening/closing day procedures and supervise campers during free time
  • Support Salvation Army badge and enrichment classes as assigned
  • Maintain cleanliness in living quarters and report maintenance issues
  • Build relationships with campers and staff, modeling Christ-like behavior and service
  • Actively contribute to the spiritual formation of campers and staff
  • Immediately report any suspected child abuse to the Assistant Camp Director and follow proper procedures
  • Other related duties as required


All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp. You are expected to join in all evening programs; absences are excused only through the Assistant Camp Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum 18 years of age (required)
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (required)
  • College degree in Christian education (preferred)
  • Camping experience either as a camper or staff (preferred)


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Skills and experience in program leadership and Christian discipleship
  • Understanding of Christian camping and the spiritual growth goals of The Salvation Army's camping program
  • Ability to teach and engage children and youth ages 8-18
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must have a personal and growing relationship with the Lord

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push and pull objects and tools
