OVERVIEW:

The Adventure Lead is responsible for planning and leading a safe, engaging program that introduces campers to hiking, outdoor exploration, team building, and ropes activities. The Adventure Lead selects appropriate equipment, maintains a clean and safe course, and fosters a creative space that encourages learning, investigation, and fun.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Plan, organize, and lead engaging adventure programs aligned with camp goals, including hiking, challenge courses, outdoor exploration, and nature-based learning
  • Facilitate low and high ropes activities safely, using team-building values and appropriate equipment
  • Prepare and maintain adventure program areas, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and proper organization of supplies
  • Conduct daily equipment checks and report safety issues; maintain inventory and submit end-of-season equipment needs
  • Supervise free-time activity areas (e.g., zipline, slingshot, pool, nature walks) and assist with electives, AIR time, and special programs
  • Lead sunrise hikes and assist cabin leaders with trail walks during adventure times
  • Support Salvation Army badge and enrichment classes as assigned
  • Keep records of camper progress and help them advance in adventure skills
  • Participate in campfires, evening programs, and daily Bible studies; help lead songs and activities
  • Assist with opening/closing day procedures and late-night supervision as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness in living quarters and report property maintenance issues
  • Build relationships with campers and staff, modeling Christ-like behavior and service
  • Actively contribute to the spiritual formation of campers and staff
  • Immediately report any suspected child abuse to the Assistant Camp Director and follow proper procedures
  • Other related duties as required


All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp. You are expected to join in all evening programs; absences are excused only through the Assistant Camp Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum 18 years of age (required)
  • C.C.T Level 2 Practitioner Certification or equivalent (preferred)
  • Camping experience either as a camper or staff (preferred)
  • Experience working on challenge courses and facilitating team-building events


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Interest, knowledge, and skills in outdoor adventure and team building
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and ability to enforce guidelines
  • Good physical health and ability to lead hikes with campers and staff
  • Ability to teach and engage youth ages 8-18
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must have a personal and growing relationship with the Lord

  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push and pull objects and tools
