Leads CT technologists and support staff in CT imaging services and associated patient care which support the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients. Ensures quality of CT imaging services provided and coordinates the daily operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).
2. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

WV: Radiography License OR Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.

PA: No state license requirement

3. Computed Tomography certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

4. Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE:
1. Five (5) years of computed tomography experience.

CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Leads CT staff to ensure the optimum in imaging procedures as indicated by image quality, repeat analysis, audits and/or patient follow up.
2. Coordinates and schedules staff to facilitate the daily operations.
3. Identifies peak flow times and supports the CT technologist to minimize patient wait times.
4. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
5. Supports staff by promoting cooperative problem solving and team building.
6. Acts as role model by displaying professional attitude and demeanor while applying professional techniques.
7. Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on needs of the patient.
8. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.
9. Evaluates images compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression, and absence of image artifact. Assures proper patient identification appears on every image.
10. Educates patients regarding CT procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
11. Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR, and federal mandates.
12. Engages in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical and support personnel throughout the hospital.
13. Instructs radiography students in the clinical setting in support of Educational Programs.
14. Performs a full range of CT processing, and imaging quality control tests in accordance with ACR technologist's manual guidelines and documents them in the CT Quality Control Test notebook.
15. Displays imaging techniques, patient care and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
16. May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
17. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
18. Maintains clean, neat, and well stocked procedure area.
19. Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations at any given time.
2. Knowledge and proficiency of radiology information systems.
3. Ability to use a computer keyboard, monitor, and mouse.
4. Ability to communicate verbally, written, and electronically with healthcare personnel, families, and patients.
5. Demonstrates good customer service skills and teamwork attitude.
6. Demonstrates current knowledge of CT scanning protocols.
7. Ability to answer telephones and transcribe messages.
8. Manages time effectively to maximize the volume of patients.
