POSITION SPECIFICS

The Justice and Safety Institute within Penn State Outreach is seeking candidates for a Law Enforcement Training Specialist within the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Training Academy. This role will cultivate external relationships,monitor budgets, create, manage, evaluate, and deliver face-to-face educational programs, and plan/coordinate marketing.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Daily oversight of Academy operations, logistics, supplies, and management of the training participants

  • Maintain up-to-date records of all interactions and related documents in databases and websites

  • Identify, develop, manage, deliver, and evaluate educational programs and related materials; consult and assess client needs

  • Monitor, update, and disseminate program and course information; work with academic units to identify appropriate instructors

  • Supervise part-time staff instructors; assist in interviewing, selecting, and training

  • Cultivate, develop, and maintain relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and businesses on the local and national level to develop initiatives

  • Participate in the development and delivery of programs with academic departments and colleges

  • Complete the required documentation necessary to support registrations, payments, cancellations and contract requirements

  • Plan and coordinate marketing for educational programs and services

  • Evaluate and prioritize internal and external requests

  • Manage costs and budgets for programs and services to meet assigned income and program targets

  • Prepare and submit various reports

  • Assist in gathering and analyzing data, and provide input based on such data as directed

  • Analyze program outcomes

  • May identify and recruit instructional program personnel

  • May develop proposals and programs

  • May identify funding sources and assist in application and administration of grants

  • Will be able to operate Academy motor vehicles and lift 50 lbs. of weighted materials

This position is funded for one year from the date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

This position requires face-to-face interaction with stakeholders, to include deputies, sheriffs, University team members, state sponsor, vendors, and other third parties as needed.

This position requires the employee to make complex decisions in a timely basis while addressing conflicting priorities and needs. Person must accurately and consistently apply specific knowledge relevant to state sponsor and University requirements, applicable laws, and recent judicial interpretations.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $56,200.00 - $81,500.00.
