Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $87,758 - $116,285. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as an Electrical Engineer II!

S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering team. As Electrical Engineer II, you'll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.

The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for designing, planning, and executing projects that help improve testing capabilities, testing efficiencies, and safety in the NJC Laboratories. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, developing designs for electrical and mechanical testing and monitoring equipment. The Electrical Engineer II will report to Senior Manager - NJC Laboratories.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Design, planning, and execution of projects related to improving and/or creating testing and monitoring equipment for the lab.
  • Development of equipment drawings, electrical schematics, and specifications related to the lab's test equipment.
  • Development and analysis of electrical circuits related to the lab's test equipment, and circuits for testing of switchgear products.
  • Collaborate with lab team members and design engineering teams to understand project requirements.
  • Set up and operate testing equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Conduct a range of tests, including electrical and mechanical tests for equipment verification, in accordance with requirements provided in industry standards and S&C's internal standards.
  • Accurately collect test data and measurements during testing. Analyze and interpret test results using statistical methods and engineering tools to draw meaningful conclusions and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues that arise during projects. Collaborate with other teams to develop solutions and improvements.
  • Prepare detailed project reports, including methodology, results, and analysis. Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the lab.
  • Support maintenance of test equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability in testing.
  • Train S&C team members on the lab's processes, equipment, and test methods, to ensure that the lab has the relevant skills needed to meet testing demand and for efficient operations.

  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.

  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.

Education & Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Required:

  • 1-3 years of experience with electrical instrumentation, electrical testing, or a related field.
  • Sound understanding of electrical engineering principles and safety practices.
  • Proficient in data analysis and statistical evaluation methods, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Meticulous approach to circuit design, data collection, and documentation to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, contribute ideas, and support team goals.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Preferred:

  • Proficient with relevant lab instrumentation, scopes, DMMs, high-voltage, and high-current measurements.
  • Programming skills with languages like Visual Basic, MATLAB, and LabVIEW for test automation and data analysis.

Major Physical Demands:

Sitting - Continuously required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based tasks.

Walking - Frequently required to walk moderate distances.

Manual Dexterity - Occasionally required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment.

Observation / Eyesight - Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors.

Communication - Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls.

Travel - Infrequently required to travel and work extended hours when necessary. May be required to travel overnight. May be required to travel internationally.

Standing - Occasional standing for job site meetings, in-plant survey work and project reviews.

Lifting - Occasional lifting of rolls of plans, project files, measuring equipment, up to 40 pounds.

Environmental & Hazardous Conditions:

Continuously working indoors in an air-conditioned office/manufacturing environment.

Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.

Continuously working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
