DET - Shift 2 (10%) (United States of America - Michigan)

A BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Supervisor, Operations, is responsible for the Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost of multiple work teams. The group lead will supervise Team Leaders in their daily responsibilities, as well as spend a large part of their time using problem solving techniques to solve everyday issues on the floor. The Supervisor reports to the Manager, Operations.

Please note: You must be able to train on 1st shift for about 6 weeks and then transfer to 2nd shift. Once you are on 2nd shift, your hours will be 2PM - 10:30PM.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead and develop team members following the One Orchid global talent management approach to select, manage, and develop our best team. Ensure the growth of our positive business culture through behaviors that align with our core values and leadership competencies.

  • Provides direction to employees directly engaged in shop-floor processes or operations. Ensures that the process/area maintains operations by managing employee performance and absences. Reviews production schedules, assigns work, coordinates set-up and ensures that materials are available to complete scheduled work.

  • Supervises work activities and resourcing for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications under the guidance of the Manager of Operations.

  • Manages labor and resource requirements such as: materials, headcount, overtime needs, equipment, etc.

  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, worker performance, quality and delivery of product

  • Utilizes knowledge of continuous improvement concepts to improve plant efficiency and productivity. Utilizes A3 process.

  • Coordinates and monitors work flow to through cells/departments to ensure established task times are met. Moves work and creates production gaps as required for maintenance to complete repairs or preventative maintenance.

  • Reports department metrics and leads daily Gemba walks and lean daily management (LDM)

  • Keeps the Manager, Operations promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.

  • Establishes or adjust work priorities to meet production schedules.

  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of procedures and ensures compliance. Supports the development of compliance procedures.

  • Manages employee performance. Rewards high performers and address underperforming employees. Writes and delivers performance evaluations and development plans, utilizing feedback from Team Leads. Addresses employee issues, escalates and/or redirects as needed. Involves and consults with Human Resources. Participates in the selection of talent for organization. Participates in hiring and termination decisions.

  • Continuously develops the team by ensuring that employees have necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in their roles. When skill gaps are identified, develops/implements action plan to address and eliminate these gaps. Identifies the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for each employees.

  • Consults with others (such as Team Leads and Managers) regarding policies, procedures, specifications, and other customer & quality requirements, as needed.

  • Enforces the 6S policy and overall cleanliness of the facility.

  • Manages safety non-compliance in a timely manner. Works with team leads to adhere to safety policies and procedures and the safe operation of all processes and equipment.

  • Ensures team members adhere to standard operating procedures (standard work)

  • Participates in daily production meetings/communications. Regularly conducts Team Lead meetings and ensures Team Leads are have information to successfully perform their duties. Proactively eliminate hazards within their departments and ensures safe operating practices are demonstrated

  • Informed/involved with complex problem solving. May decide on actions to take. (e.g. Kaizen)

  • Participates in planning and equipment maintenance and repairs to support production schedule. Working with maintenance, oversees and manages maintenance of all equipment. This includes preventive and predictive repairs. Keeps the Manager, Operations informed of and tracks machine breakdown reasons and works to prevent them.

  • Oversees the training of new employees on standard of work instructions and policies and procedures. Ensures required training is provided and validates effectiveness of training

  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of procedures and ensures compliance. Supports the development of compliance procedures.

  • Proactively leads activities to eliminate scrap and improves product quality through problem solving and investigation.

  • Achieves productivity targets consistently and actively pursues continuous improvement.

  • Oversees the operations of a large and/or complex area.

  • Leads safety by leading by example and complying with safe practices and ensuring employee compliance with safe practices. Manages non-compliance in a timely manner. Works with team leads to adhere to safety policies and procedures and the safe operation of all processes and equipment.

  • Support quality and compliance by adhering to all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements and establishing/supporting plan(s) to meet/exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD) and financial objectives.

  • Ensure team members have the required knowledge and skills prior to performing job duties independently, including conducting, documenting and evaluating training effectiveness.

  • Maintain work area, tools and equipment in a clean and organized condition.

  • Allocates and manages labor and resource requirements such as: materials, headcount, overtime needs, equipment, etc.

  • Addresses employee issues, escalates and/or redirects as needed. Involves and consults with Human Resources.

  • Approves employee timecards daily and weekly, fixing any mistakes as needed and in a timely manner.

  • Support quality and compliance by utilizing One Orchid global processes and complying with all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements and establishing/supporting plan(s) to meet/exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD) and financial objectives.

  • Works through Plant/Site Manager to anticipate, communicate, and prevent financial problems related to the essential duties.

  • Motivates, organizes, and encourages teamwork within the work force to ensure productivity targets are met or exceeded.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Or Equivalent (Required)

  • Associates (Preferred)

  • Bachelor (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ Years of Experience in a Leadership Role (Required)

  • Manufacturing Experience (Required)

  • Machining experience (Preferred)

  • Experience in a FDA Regulated Environment (Preferred)
