We push the limits of innovation to solve the world's most important challenges-striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an accomplished Senior Director of Platform Architecture & Technical Requirements to lead a cross-functional product management organization responsible for defining the detailed, end-to-end technical requirements across hardware, system, and software layers for AMD's next-generation Instinct GPU and datacenter platforms.

This leader will guide the architectural requirements that shape AMD's platform capabilities-spanning silicon enablers, system behaviors, ROCm software stack readiness, compiler/runtime execution models, performance modeling insights, and emerging workload trends such as next-generation AI models, datatypes, and scaling methodologies.

You will be responsible for ensuring that AMD's future platform designs are deeply informed by technology roadmaps, AI/ML workload evolution, data movement and datatype innovation, developer tooling advancements, and system performance characteristics, producing a unified technical strategy that enables robust compute platform competitiveness.

THE PERSON:

You are a systems-oriented, technically fluent executive who excels at connecting insights across architecture, software, and workloads into coherent technical direction. You thrive on synthesizing emerging technology trends, evaluating their impact on platform architecture, and guiding technical organizations toward long-range, cross-stack solutions.

You are adept at leading technical product organizations, fostering rigorous analytical thinking, and driving clarity across complex engineering environments. You can effectively partner with architects, software engineers, and performance modeling teams to define forward-looking requirements that anticipate industry shifts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and grow a multi-disciplinary product management team responsible for cross-stack technical requirements definition encompassing hardware architecture enablers, system-level behaviors, software execution models, and performance requirements.
  • Establish a disciplined framework for cross-stack requirements gathering, synthesis, and documentation, ensuring alignment across architecture, software, and system engineering teams.
  • Foster a culture of technical depth, innovation, predictive analysis, and cross-functional accountability.
  • Develop technical product management talent and build a high-performing organization capable of driving architecture-level clarity and foresight.

Technical Requirements Definition

  • Own the detailed, end-to-end platform requirements informing future Instinct GPU, system, and ROCm software designs.
  • Translate insights from AI model evolution, datatype innovation (e.g., FP8, sparsity, quantization), algorithmic speed-up techniques, and distributed scaling methodologies into future platform requirements.
  • Define requirements for compiler/runtime capabilities, ROCm software features, kernel libraries, observability, and developer tooling based on forward-looking technology trends.
  • Ensure platform requirements accurately capture workload characteristics, informed by performance modeling, hardware measurement, and system-level profiling.
  • Partner closely with architecture teams to influence long-range silicon definition and ensure platform alignment with future workloads and software execution patterns.
  • Produce rigorous PRDs and technical specifications that guide engineering deliverables across multiple organizations.

Technology & Workload Trend Analysis

  • Maintain deep understanding of AI/ML model architectures, HPC application patterns, emerging parallelism strategies, memory/data movement bottlenecks, and future framework trends.
  • Continuously assess how workload trends and developer ecosystem shifts impact platform design across hardware and software layers.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance to AMD leadership regarding long-range architectural needs, opportunities, and risks.
  • Drive early internal understanding of disruptive trends in model scaling, compilers, inference acceleration, datatypes, and system software.

Cross-Functional & Executive Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Architecture, Silicon Design, Systems Engineering, ROCm Software Engineering, Compilers, and Performance Modeling teams to synchronize cross-stack requirements with engineering roadmaps.
  • Participate in executive-level decision-making forums, advising on platform architecture direction, cross-stack trade-offs, and technical investment priorities.
  • Work closely with product management peers to ensure platform-level technical requirements complement broader roadmap and market strategies.
  • Ensure technical requirement clarity throughout engineering development and across phase-gate processes.

Customer and Ecosystem Leadership

  • Engage with hyperscalers, CSPs, OEMs, AI research labs, and open-source communities to understand future workload trajectories, software stack expectations, and deployment environments.
  • Represent AMD's platform architecture and technical requirements strategy in strategic customer and ecosystem engagements.
  • Build relationships across the AI and HPC research communities to inform future platform direction.

Technical Leadership and Domain Oversight

  • Provide senior thought leadership across architectural domains, including:
  • GPU architecture enablers and long-range design assumptions
  • System interconnects, memory hierarchy, and scaling behavior
  • Compiler/runtime abstractions and execution models
  • ROCm APIs, libraries, and developer ecosystem readiness
  • Performance modeling methodologies and projection frameworks
  • Datatypes, numerics, sparsity formats, and algorithmic evolution
  • Observability, debugging/profiling tooling, and developer workflows
  • Ensure that AMD's technical PM function maintains a unified and rigorous engineering foundation across all programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18+ years of experience across technical product management, system architecture, software engineering, or performance engineering, with 8+ years in senior leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated expertise spanning both hardware and software architectural domains, including AI/HPC workloads, GPU computing, compiler/runtime systems, or performance modeling.
  • Proven ability to define cross-layer technical requirements that inform multi-year architecture and platform development.
  • Experience synthesizing complex technology and workload trends into clear strategic guidance.
  • Strong executive communication skills and ability to influence architecture and engineering leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical leadership experience at a GPU, AI, HPC, or datacenter platform vendor.
  • Direct experience with ROCm, CUDA, ML frameworks, compiler/runtime stacks, or performance analysis tools.
  • Recognized thought leadership through publications, patents, or industry engagement.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline; MBA optional.

LOCATION:
