The Rutgers University Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (
CAIT) tackles some of the country's most pressing infrastructure challenges, especially those that are endemic in high-volume multi-modal corridors like the Northeast. The bulk of our efforts fall within several broad areas: assessing and monitoring the health of bridges, roads, and pipelines; creating and implementing revolutionary technologies, materials, and tools; formulating strategies to prolong the service life of infrastructure; and training the current and future workforce. Since 1998,
CAIT has been a University Transportation Center (
UTC)-a group of academic research institutions sanctioned and supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It was named the Region 2
UTC in 2018, and since 2023 has been a member of the National Center for Infrastructure Transformation. |
| Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Assistant for the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (
CAIT). Reporting to an Engineering Research Project Manager in the Rutgers Rail and Transit Program, this position will provide critical research and technical support, project execution assistance, and project management skills to the Center.
This position will support CAIT's research portfolio under the guidance of the Center's Director, generate economic analyses to quantify project impacts, work closely with Principal Investigators on collaborative research, and support
CAIT staff in managing key clients and programs. Position is expected to grow into a liaison and resource for
CAIT clients including NJ Transit.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Focuses on the technical execution of research projects.
- Provides knowledge in the areas of transportation planning, rail network analysis, business case development, and data visualization.
- Supports day-to-day operations of the Center and work alongside CAIT staff developing and managing programs with key clients such as NJ Transit.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences (e.g., Economics, Planning, Sociology, Anthropology) or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant experience.

- Excellent data analytics and data visualization skills.
- Good communication skills and computer literacy to include industry standard software.
