2026 Summer Intern - Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology (BCP), Genentech

Department Summary

The Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology (BCP) group develops biologically relevant quantitative biochemical and cellular assays and experiments to support drug discovery efforts at Genentech. The department employs a wide spectrum of Scientists at various levels and is recognized globally for its important contribution to drug discovery in diverse therapeutic areas.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA (On site).

The Opportunity

Perform routine cell culture, including human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) maintenance, expansion, and differentiation into neuronal cell types.

  • Optimize novel iPSC to neuronal differentiation methods; judge the success of the protocol by validating biological function and cell identity markers employing a variety of molecular and biochemical assay techniques.

  • Maintain and organize experiment records and relevant documentation in electronic format.

  • Compile experimental data and present scientific results at the 2026 Intern Poster Day.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are

Required Education: Must be pursuing a Bachelors Degree (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or other related majors.

Required skills:

  • Proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including troubleshooting and optimizing biochemical assays.

  • Background knowledge in in-vitro model systems.

  • Relevant technical skills for data analysis, ELN documentation, and presenting results.

  • Passion and ability to learn new concepts and skills. Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location ofCalifornia is $26.00-$33.00 hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
