The Solvere Technical Group is seeking a detail-oriented Small Boat Estimator to join our team.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Develop detailed, accurate labor, material, and equipment estimates for maintenance, overhaul and upkeep of various boats/shop work and repairs to be accomplished on Government and Commercial vessels using drawings and specifications and on-site ship checks for interference and access problems.
  • Solicit and evaluate price quotations from subcontractors and rental equipment providers.
  • Prepare estimates in strict compliance with Estimating Department standards and policies; providing feedback on such standards and policies when experience suggests a need for deviation or change.


EDUCATION:



  • Typically has a BA/BS in a related field, or
  • AA/AS plus two (2) years' directly related experience, or
  • Six (6) years' directly related experience.


REQUIRED EXERIENCE:



  • In-depth familiarity with Navy, USCG and Military Sealift Command fleet maintenance procedures and terminology, including the Joint Fleet Forces Maintenance Manual (JFMM) Volume VII, Chapter 4, Appendix E and the interpretation of 4E Work Specifications.
  • Detailed knowledge of small boat operating characteristics and the engines, machinery, electronics equipment, and systems; their functional relationships; the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices; and the unique environmental conditions under which work is performed aboard marine craft, both in the shop and working remotely in CONUS and OCONUS work sites.
  • Knowledge of small boat and marine equipment nomenclature. Experience and knowledge of marine propulsion and electrical systems, equipment, spaces, configuration, as well as labor and material costs necessary to perform repairs, upgrades, alterations and maintenance to same.
  • Make decisions concerning interpretation of work item specifications. Write inquiries to customers, as required, for clarification of requirements.
  • Be able to assess the condition of boat and components based on technicians' reports, statements of work and site visits and surveys, to interpret work required for estimating purposes.
  • Generate thorough and accurate bills of materials for estimating purposes.
  • Collaborate with the team performing mechanical repairs and maintenance.
  • Track on-going work and repairs for feedback of material and man-hour estimating effort using all cost reports and purchase order data available, plus on-site observations and direct interface with key production personnel. Able to retrieve data from computer and from archives.
  • Use computer to store and retrieve information to aid in preparing labor, subcontractor and material cost estimates. Able to access the system and work with various programs in order to assist with development of the estimate into a proper bid format.


TRAVEL:



  • Travel will occur up to 10% of the time within the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, no overnight travel required.


SECURITY REQUIREMENT:



  • Must pass a standard background check and have or able to obtain a Confidential Clearance


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must be able to work in an office, industrial or shipboard environment.
  • Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature.
  • Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set 40lbs.


LOCATION:



  • This task shall be primarily performed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at our boat warehouse and repair facility.
  • Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)


SCHEDULE:



  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Availability to work extended and weekend hours as needed
