Overview
Salary: $57.48-63.87 Hourly W2
We are seeking a Design Systems Architect to join a newly formed enablement team focused on system unification, governance, and scalable component architecture across multiple digital product surfaces. This role is ideal for a systems-level thinker who thrives in complex environments and understands how to build reusable, extensible design foundations that scale across internal teams and external partners. This is not a brand or marketing UI role. This is an enterprise architecture and platform design challenge. You will act as a design systems subject matter expert, advising cross-functional teams and external partners while contributing to enterprise workflow design and emerging AI-enabled tooling. **What You'll Do:**
Design System Architecture & Governance
- Lead architectural design and documentation of scalable UI components and patterns.
- Define and evolve design tokens, reusable components, and system standards.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to drive cross-platform consistency.
- Conduct system audits and provide recommendations to maintain integrity and scalability.
- Support governance through documentation, guidelines, and advisory sessions.
Partner & Developer Enablement
- Author clear usage documentation and Human Interface Guidelines for third-party partners.
- Provide architectural guidance to ensure proper system implementation.
- Reduce reliance on manual QA by building scalable documentation frameworks.
- Collaborate with engineering and partner teams to align standards and execution.
Enterprise Workflow Design
- Design complex internal tools and multi-step workflows.
- Solve B2B and operational UX challenges involving metadata, content management, and service systems.
- Balance system constraints with usability and long-term scalability.
AI & Tooling Exploration
- Explore AI-driven workflow automation and design system efficiencies.
- Contribute to proof-of-concepts that enhance productivity within design tooling environments.
- Bring curiosity and initiative toward experimentation with emerging AI capabilities.
**What You'll Bring - Required Qualifications:**
Design Systems Expertise (Core Requirement)
3-5+ years focused experience in design systems.
- Demonstrated experience building or governing scalable component libraries.
- Strong understanding of tokens, extensibility, and system architecture.
- Experience unifying systems across multiple products or platforms.
- Portfolio showcasing system architecture and documentation (not just visual UI work).
Enterprise & B2B Experience
Experience designing enterprise tools or B2B SaaS products.
- Proven ability to manage complex workflows and cross-functional constraints.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, evolving environments.
Technical Collaboration
- Working familiarity with HTML, CSS, or JavaScript (light exposure acceptable).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
- Comfort discussing implementation details and system constraints.
Communication & Influence
- Strong written communication skills for documentation and guidelines.
- Experience advising stakeholders across design, product, and engineering.
- Ability to operate independently and drive alignment across teams.
Tools
Advanced proficiency in Figma (component libraries, tokens, prototyping).
- Experience working within large-scale design system environments.
**Desired Qualifications - Nice to Have:**
- Experience supporting external partners or developer ecosystems.
- Background in enterprise-scale component libraries used by large teams.
- Familiarity with documentation tools such as Storybook, Zeroheight, or similar.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG AA).
- Experience with large-screen or multi-modal interfaces.
- Demonstrated interest or experimentation in AI-driven design tooling.
