Job Summary

The TRIO Student Support Services Specialist position reports directly to the Project Director and is responsible for coordination of support services for all project participants during the academic year and summer component including: workshops on a variety of college success topics as well as activities related to cultural enrichment, leadership development and personal growth. Works with a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public. The position is fully funded via a grant from the US Education Department through September 2030.

Essential Functions

* 35% - Provides assistance with university transfer processes; works closely with participants interested in securing scholarships; contacts and makes referrals to campus resources and community agencies as needed; provides financial aid advisement and referrals

* 30% - Assists and/or leads in the planning and implementation of grant programming including:
workshops, on/off - campus events and in/out of state trips etc.

* 20% - Collects data on program participants, program effectiveness and prepares data reports

* 12% - Advises new, continuing and prospective students on grant program admission and program requirements and a variety of general college information; assist in the recruitment of eligible students

* 3% - Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, customer service, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Experience with TRIO or similar outreach programs that are governed by federal and/or state regulations related to grants
B. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in social sciences, education or related field
C. Experience working with at-risk student populations and familiar with the challenges encountered by first-generation, low-income college students and/or students with disabilities
D. Experience with computer software such as the Microsoft Office suite, internet platforms, MCCCD Student Information System, the Canvas LMS
E. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years

Special Working Conditions

* Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving.
* Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
* May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
* May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds
* Work schedule varies during the year: August through mid-May: Monday - Friday, 8-hour days; mid-May through the end of July: Monday - Thursday, 10-hour days
* May require working evening and weekend hours (example: Saturday coverage during peak weeks)
* May be required to travel or be assigned to another MCCD location
* MCC does not sponsor individuals for work visas
