PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provides Lead Technician direction to departmental personnel assuring the timely delivery of environmental services, sanitation, cleanliness, and safety in a timely manner and promotes harmonious relationships between personnel and all other contacts to optimize customer service and satisfaction.

Education

  • None.

Experience

  • Must have four years of environmental services experience in a healthcare or related institutional setting, or equivalent college education and/or management experience supplementing/substituting for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must complete departmental training and testing specific to the department.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • None.

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must be able to follow both oral and written directions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sanitation techniques, and the use of cleaning materials. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of specialized cleaning techniques and all Environmental Services cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to relate well to others and fellow employees and be able to demonstrate techniques and relay procedures to assigned personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the cleaning of assigned areas, including hospital critical care areas, patient room areas, corridors, walkways, parking areas, bed tracking, etc. to assure the optimal clean, sanitary and safe environment for all internal/external customers of the hospital and PHHS. Assigned Lead Technician duties may include the assurance of sanitary, effective and efficient sweeping, moping, vacuuming, collection/disposal of common and medical infectious waste, cleaning, floor striping/buffing, detailing, etc.
  • Participates in the training and motivation of assigned staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers.
  • Harmoniously works with all contacts inclusive of patients, visitors, hospital and PHHS employees and managers, to promote optimal customer services and customer satisfaction in accord with the missions and objectives of the Environmental Services Department, the hospital and PHHS. Sets example for assigned personnel.
  • Responsible in assigned areas and for assigned personnel for the maintenance, correct use, including instruction, and for the care for materials, equipment and supplies, requisitioning and replenishing supplies as needed, notifying supervisor when maintenance, and/or repair is needed, to assure the optimal usage of materials and safety for Environmental Services Department services and resources.
  • Performs services of Environmental Technicians I, II, and III in relief and staff shortage situations to assure the continuance of environmental services, while providing optimal services to internal and external customers. Must be flexible and respond to the needs of any shift.
  • Maintains and implements knowledge of all the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, laws, etc. that impact or govern environmental services and ensures that all assigned staff are in compliance.
  • Stays current with the latest developments, advancements and trends in environmental services cleaning, sanitation, and safety areas by attending in service sessions, classes/workshops, reading materials/magazines and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job.
  • Identifies and analyzes the work processes, workflows, quality outcomes, etc. for this position and work areas and makes and/or recommends appropriate changes to improve customer service, effectiveness, productivity, efficiency that support the overall goals of the Environmental Services Department, hospital and PHHS.

Job Accountabilities

  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
