Overview

Are you interested in building and evolving Microsoft Office Copilot experiences used by millions of people every day? Do you enjoy working on userfacing features, distributed systems, and AIpowered experiences where engineering quality and iteration really matter?

The Office Copilot Front Doors team is looking for a Software Engineer II who is excited to grow their technical depth while owning meaningful parts of Copilot experiences across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In this role, you will design, build, and ship features endtoend, working closely with partner teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and userfocused solutions.

Our team focuses on delivering highquality, personalized Copilot entry points that help users get value quickly and consistently. You'll work across the stack, contribute to system design, and use data and experimentation to guide decisions and improvements over time.

This role is a great fit for an engineer who enjoys learning, takes pride in clean and maintainable code, and wants to grow scope and ownership with the support of a collaborative team. You'll have opportunities to deepen your engineering skills, learn how largescale products are built and operated, and work alongside experienced engineers and partners across Microsoft.

Responsibilities
  • Drive design, development, testing, and release of servicesande2esolutionsthat enhanceuserexperiences and achieve key businessobjectives.
  • Work well with others, including engineers, program managers, designers, and partner teams.
  • Evolve development guidelines,engineeringpractices & processes forOfficee2eclient toservicesdevelopment & delivery.
  • Design resilient, scalable, and easily maintainable software.
  • Lead with an experimental, data driven approach with a focus on driving business outcomes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with AI technologies and buildingservices at scale.
  • Experience building applications,libraries, SDKs, and other development platform components.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to use AI tooling to reduce cycle time and boost throughput whilemaintainingMicrosoft's standards for privacy, security, and compliance.
  • Experience withLLMs, Copilot Platform, skills development, advanced prompt engineering,and evaluationmethodologies is a plus.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and understand key business needs in line with competing priorities and apply the right technology and implementation to the solution.
  • Experience working with AI technologies and infrastructure, with emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance in production environments.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills with a solid understanding of object-oriented design, codingpatterns, testing practicesandsolutions for large scale technical problems.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset to learn new things and quickly get up-to-speed and be productive on new technical domains and are comfortable in dealing with ambiguity.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
