What You Will Do
- Coordinate powertrain development activities between partners of zero emission commercial vehicles programs, including overseas R&D, local operations and suppliers and sales organizations.
- Instrument prototype/production vehicles and test performance of powertrain systems at proving grounds.
- Test performance of powertrain systems on benchmark vehicles in real world test routes and cycles.
- Monitor technical emerging trends of powertrain components as well as overall system interaction.
- Analyze test data, research systems performance issues root cause, identify and recommend corrective actions.
- Supports benchmarking activities.
- Oversee prototype fleet routing coordination, operation and maintenance. Monitor and report fleet vehicles powertrain performance and investigate incidents and/or performance outside targets metrics.
- Support software and calibration updates on fleet vehicles.
- Organize hardware updates on fleet vehicles.
- Plan, monitor and manage department budget OR assist in planning and monitoring of department budget.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including global R&D, regional engineering groups, and external partners.
- Create and present technical reports and presentations for management reviews.
- Investigate incidents and/or performance outside targets metrics.
- Support emission and OBD development for commercial vehicles.
- Participate in industry refueling/recharging testing for commercial vehicles (H70HF, MCS...).
- Analyze test data, compare to charging standards and expected performance.
- Ability to travel domestically (15%) & internationally (5%)
- Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Physical demands
- Maybe exposed to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes, electrical, and chemical hazards.
- May work outdoors in extremes of weather and temperature (Field temperature ranges from -40 F to +120 F; altitude ranges from -300 ft. below sea level to +14,000 ft. above sea level)
- May require bending and stooping and lifting while removing and attaching 55,000 lb. trailers to vehicles
What You Will Bring to the Role
- Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and/or Physics
- Related Industry Experience Requirements:
- 3+ years working for a Commercial Vehicle OEM
- 2+ years of experience in electrified powertrain development, preferably with MD/HD electric zero emission powertrains (battery or fuel cell)
- 2+ years basic understanding of electrified powertrain concepts (motor, inverter, gearbox, and battery systems)
- Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Flexibility in handling multiple projects and changing priorities
- Proficient in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; MS Internet Explorer; MS Project
- Proficiency in planning, executing, and monitoring projects
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of vehicle communication networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
- Background in prototype vehicle on-road testing and performance measurement
- Experience in powertrain controls calibration / logic development
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities
- Proficiency in planning, executing, and closing projects
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License (CDL a plus) and satisfactory driving record
