Senior Manager, Subcontracts - Pipelines

Building on our past. Ready for the future.
Worley is a global professional services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts. We partner with customers to deliver projects and create value over the life of their assets. We're bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.

Play an integral role in delivering complex, large-scale pipeline projects by shaping and executing subcontracting strategies that protect commercial outcomes and enable successful project delivery. You will operate at the intersection of procurement, contracts, project execution, and stakeholder management, ensuring that subcontracting activities align with both Worley and client objectives.

Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for leading the end-to-end subcontract lifecycle across major pipeline projects-from contractor identification and selection through negotiation, award, and post-award contract management. This includes safeguarding contractual positions, managing change, and developing effective claims defense strategies.

You will bring a commercially astute and pragmatic approach to managing high-value, high-risk subcontract packages, ensuring that contractual obligations are met while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with contractors, project teams, and clients.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of subcontracting strategies for major pipeline projects, ensuring alignment with project delivery objectives and commercial frameworks
  • Identify, evaluate, and select qualified contractors for engineering, specialty services, and construction scopes
  • Negotiate complex commercial terms and conditions, ensuring balanced risk allocation while protecting Worley and client interests
  • Prepare, review, and finalize subcontract agreements in accordance with project and corporate governance requirements
  • Manage post-award contract administration, including change management, variations, and contractor correspondence
  • Analyze contractor claims and develop robust claims defense strategies in collaboration with Legal and project leadership
  • Maintain contractual integrity by ensuring that responses to contractor communications preserve rights and remedies under the contract
  • Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations, including schedule, cost, quality, and safety metrics
  • Review and approve contractor invoices, ensuring alignment with contractual terms and delivery milestones
  • Provide strategic guidance to project teams on subcontracting risks, opportunities, and commercial impacts
  • Collaborate closely with client representatives when managing contracts on behalf of the client, ensuring transparency and alignment
  • Lead and mentor subcontract and contracts professionals, setting clear expectations and driving high performance
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of subcontracting systems, processes, and tools
  • Travel as required to project sites or contractor locations, including remote and logistically complex environments such as the North Slope.

  • Deep knowledge of contract law principles, commercial risk management, and claims management practices
  • Proven ability to negotiate complex, high-value contracts and influence outcomes with senior stakeholders
  • Experience managing post-award contract administration, including change orders, claims, and dispute resolution
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk, cost, and schedule considerations
  • Ability to interpret complex contractual language and translate it into actionable project guidance
  • Leadership experience, including managing teams and developing talent within a project or functional environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex commercial matters clearly and persuasively to senior leadership and clients
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
