THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Health Care Nurse Surveyor, you will protect public health by conducting surveys of nursing care facilities. You will inspect nursing homes to evaluate the quality of care and services, investigate abuse complaints, and complete Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) surveys. You will also determine eligibility for initial licensure, re-licensure, and federal certification. This role requires effective communication to conduct interviews, report preliminary deficiencies to facility administrators, and to provide family members, residents, patients, and facilities with information about the survey process, policies and regulations. In addition, you will approve corrective action plans, conduct follow-up visits with facilities, and stay current with knowledge, guidelines, and definitions relating to complex health care regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Flexible work hours are required.
  • Irregular Schedule: You will be required to carry a cell phone and respond to complaints during off-hours.
  • Travel: This position is required to travel statewide, overnight, and regularly within Berks, Bucks, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • You must have active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • All positions require successful completion of the relevant provider-specific federally mandated training provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services within one year of hire.
  • This position requires successful completion of the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within one year of hire.
  • You must be in possession of an active motor vehicle license.
