Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Vice Provost for Student Success, the Senior Associate Vice Provost for Strategy, Engagement, and Analytics ( AVP) serves as the chief strategy, external engagement, and analytics officer for student success initiatives across the university touching enrollment, academic affairs, and student affairs. The AVP provides strategic leadership to foster alignment and maximize efficiencies across administrative functions that support the entire student experience.

This role oversees teams responsible for student-focused communications and engagement within the Office of Student Success, including enrollment and student affairs marketing and communications, fundraising and development, and data and analytics. The AVP will oversee new student and parent/family initiatives and the division's engagement with student boards and alumni.

The role will also foster alignment and maximize efficiencies across administrative functions that support the student experience - from initial inquiry and degree completion to career success. The individual in this role will help build and operationalize a shared services model that encompasses administrative functions including human resources, IT, finance, and operations staff supporting student success.
A highly collaborative and strong leader, the AVP will take an audience-centered and data-informed approach to guiding strategies and approaches that align with the division's vision to create an unmatched and seamless student experience at Carolina.

In support of these efforts, the AVP directly supervises and provides strategic direction for the Director of New Student and Family Programs, Coordinator of Student and Family Support, Director of Enrollment Research and Analytics, Director of Student Affairs Special Projects and Communications, Director of Enrollment Marketing and Communications, and provides shared oversight (dotted-line) of the senior development/major gift officers who currently support Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The AVP also fosters alignment and maximize efficiencies across administrative functions that support the student experience - from initial inquiry, degree completion, to career success. The individual in this role will help build and operate a shared services model that encompasses administrative functions and operations staff supporting student success.

The AVP will work across the institution to foster and maintain connections between and among functional areas. By fostering a culture of innovation, the AVP will position their teams to leverage modern marketing and communications, enhance data infrastructure to improve analytics, and identify ways to create personalized student engagement. The AVP will also serve as a key strategic advisor to the Senior Vice Provost for Student Success, helping to uncover opportunities to enhance the student and family experience, increase operational efficiencies, and achieve division goals.

Serving as the primary divisional liaison to the Department of Athletics, the AVP will also support and collaborate with athletics staff to ensure the student-athlete experience fully reflects the University's commitment to academic success and holistic support inside and outside the classroom. The AVP will partner and engage on a wide range of issues as they relate to intercollegiate athletics that stretches across enrollment management, student success, and student affairs. The AVP will also be expected to maintain a close working relationship with the Athletics Director and their leadership team.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A strategic thinker with an open and collaborative leadership style that fosters teamwork and inspires engagement
Demonstrated experience as a results-oriented leader with a professional passion for supporting operational excellence
Significant professional experience in some or all of the following areas: communications, marketing, data analytics, student affairs, enrollment management, student success, student athletics, or related fields
Capacity to provide evidence-based and data-informed strategic insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Demonstrated ability to utilize data and analytics to drive and assess ongoing institutional effectiveness
Experience leading projects to successful conclusion, while driving organizational change and innovation
Experience managing and mentoring staff
Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with diplomacy and sound judgment
*Ability and commitment to promote a collaborative work environment, building professional relationships with staff and campus colleagues
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A doctoral or other terminal degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
