Hourly Rate: $33.21

Position Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of General Mechanics, Temple University's General Mechanics II (GMs) are the primary customer response personnel for general, interior building maintenance issues. Successful candidates will possess a strong customer service orientation and a focus on quality and safety, be mechanically proficient, and have experience in general building maintenance practices. The GMs are part of the Office of Facilities Management and work with the skilled trades to provide an optimal learning and research environment for the Temple community. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Details
* This position requires the following background checks: Department of Motor Vehicles background check.
* Offer of employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.

Required Education and Experience
* A Trade school degree in a related craft is required.
* A minimum of three (3) years of general maintenance experience in a commercial or educational environment with demonstrated electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills is required.
* Must have a valid US driver's license and/or the ability to obtain one if hired.
* An equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
* Experience in working in high-rise buildings and knowledge of building codes.

Required Skills and Abilities
* Ability to drive around and between campuses to transport tools and equipment.
* Ability to be a team player and work towards common goals promptly and constructively.
* Capable of prioritizing urgent projects and working in a fast-paced and challenging work environment.
* Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
* Ability to operate all types of hand and power tools, including power saws, power drills, and various power equipment, ladders, and elevated work platforms.

Essential Duties
* Miscellaneous low-level electrical work, including lamp and ballast replacement and rewiring of light fixtures and sockets.
* Miscellaneous carpentry, including replacing ceiling tiles, installing keyboard trays, assembling furniture, repairing flooring, hanging boards, pictures, and fixtures, installing bathroom stall hardware, touching up paint, and spackling.
* Miscellaneous plumbing, including replacing or repairing bathroom flushometers, faucet repair, and installation, cleaning or removing drain traps, and repairing or replacing flush handles.
* Assist mechanics on large jobs and engineering and renovation projects.
* Pick up and drop off materials at job sites.
