Associate University Registrar, Data and Systems Operations

About the Department

The Cornell University Office of the University Registrar (OUR) implements and monitors many academic and administrative policies in coordination with academic units, departments, colleges, and schools to facilitate faculty teaching and student learning. OUR acts as the steward of academic and student information. OUR champions the constant renewal of student information systems, adapts operations to changing academic needs, federal, state, and institution policies, and evaluates administrative processes for services improvements.

Enrollment representatives within Cornell's colleges, schools, and units regularly collaborate and partner with the Enrollment Division to accomplish the University's enrollment goals.

The Opportunity

The Office of the University Registrar has an Associate University Registrar, Data and Systems Operations position open on its Data and Systems Operations team.

Led by the Associate University Registrar, Data and Systems Operations, the Data and Systems Operations team provides problem and issue resolution for a variety of business processes. The team participates in system and technology projects by providing business-specific knowledge, requirements, and leading and participating in implementations. The team frequently collaborates with stakeholders in all colleges and schools across Cornell University, Bursar, Division of Enrollment, and Cornell Information Technology.

The Associate University Registrar, Data and Systems Operations is responsible for configuration and maintenance of the Student Records module within the Student Information System (SIS). The Associate University Registrar must understand the dependencies and ensure integration between all modules within the SIS, such as Admissions, Student Financials, Financial Aid, and the student data warehouse. An understanding of the relationship between the SIS and other systems within OUR and those used in other areas throughout all Cornell University campuses is critical.

The Associate University Registrar, Data and Systems Operations will play a pivotal role in the Cornell Experience Modernization Initiative (CEMI), a multiyear effort to unify and modernize the university's administrative and systems, including student systems. The role will collaborate closely with crosscampus partners, functional leads, and technical teams to ensure student record requirements are accurately reflected in the evolving CEMI ecosystem. By bringing deep operational expertise and a systemsoriented mindset, the Associate University Registrar will help streamline workflows, promote standardization, enhance data reliability, and contribute to the creation of a seamless, modernized experience for students, faculty, staff, and other Cornell stakeholders.

  • Support the day-to-day systems and technology operations of the Registrar's office by managing bug and error reporting, providing access to core systems and guiding operational staff in development of new solutions.

  • Champion the use of university-wide systems for common functions to improve data quality, eliminate shadow systems, and reduce maintenance efforts and/or costs while addressing change management considerations.

  • Lead and conduct in-depth analysis on how best to improve business processes. Define and lead documentation efforts on how to use the SIS and other systems to fulfill those requirements.

  • Lead and participate in implementations of new systems.

  • Supervise and oversee the work of the Data and Systems Operations team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on issue resolution, system configuration, and the implementation of new technology solutions.

  • Develop a culture of superior customer service when dealing with customer tickets, phone calls, and email communications.
