University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Biology

Job Title: Entry Laboratory Science Professional

Position #: 00846843 - Requisition #: 39631

Job Summary:

A position as an Entry Laboratory Science Professional is available within the Mosimann research laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Biology, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position that will utilize molecular, biochemical, genetic, imaging, and bioinformatic/computational approaches in a wet lab setting.

The Mosimann Lab studies the formation of the heart, blood, and blood vessels, as well as their developmentally related cell types, using zebrafish as the principal model. As a Laboratory Sciences Professional in our lab, you will work closely with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to support their projects and pursue individual lines of research. The work is highly flexible and variable, including standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, subcloning, gel electrophoresis), microscopy (fluorescence and confocal microscopy), transgenesis techniques, and basic computational/bioinformatic analyses. Commensurate with increased expertise, you will be given the opportunity to work more independently on projects using state-of-the-art methods such as scRNAseq and scMultiome analyses, transgenesis, CRISPR-Cas9, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.

  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.

  • Perform experiments, tabulate, and analyze research.

  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.

  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.

  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well-established guidelines and instructions.

  • Review, complete, and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.

  • Review and implement lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations, and management needs.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.

  • Perform collaborative experiments using molecular cloning, PCR, microinjection, fluorescent and colorimetric in situ RNA hybridization, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, sample sectioning, and confocal/light sheet microscopy.

  • Collect data from microscopy images using imaging software such as ImageJ and Imaris and perform appropriate statistical tests.

  • Keep detailed records of zebrafish stocks and experimental data.

  • Write reports contributing to research summaries and manuscripts.

  • Help prepare data and figures for grant proposals.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:
