Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Plumbing Quality Inspector to work on our Construction Quality team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our CFA facility with every Friday off.

At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll perform inspections according to approved inspection plans, specifications, and codes, maintain detailed records of examinations and tests, identify and initiate nonconformance issues, and interface with engineers and manufacturing personnel to communicate results and support process improvements. Depending on your specialty area, you may apply NDE methods or perform compliance verification for HVAC, plumbing, or coatings work across Idaho National Laboratory's facilities.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections according to approved inspection plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Ensure inspection equipment and tools are within calibration dates and in sound working condition.
  • Maintain detailed records of examinations/inspections/tests.
  • Identify and initiate nonconformance issues.
  • Verify/witness testing is performed correctly, and results conform to the requirements of the contractual specification.
  • Interface with engineers and manufacturing personnel to provide test results and assist in process improvements, as needed.
  • Perform in-process surveillances of complex-wide program work to verify compliance with company quality program procedures.
  • Continue development of skills and knowledge necessary for effective performance.

Additional Duties for Nondestructive Examiner:

  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to quality engineering staff in NDE [Visual Testing (VT)] application of inspection discipline and technique.
  • Train and provide guidance to NDT Technician I's and NDT Technician II's. Mentor as needed.
  • Receive instruction and supervision from a certified Level II or Level III.

Additional Duties for Construction Inspector:

  • Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning (HVAC) Inspector: Perform verification of compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and standards for new HVAC installations and existing HVAC modifications.
  • Plumbing Inspector: Perform verification of compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and standards for new plumbing installations and existing plumbing modifications.

Required:

  • Level 3: Graduation from high school or equivalent and 4 years of related experience.
  • Level 4: Graduation from high school or equivalent and 6 years of related experience.

  • Relevant experience commensurate with level.
  • Meet requirements under MCP-13425 and/or MCP-13426.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Obtain and maintain the proper DOE clearance as required by the facility supported.
  • Obtain and maintain all required job-related exams and position qualifications.
  • Maintain INL Basic Inspector qualification and activities.
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more of the following building code disciplines: Plumbing or HVAC (apprenticeship experience preferred)
  • Knowledge and skills in Nondestructive Examination (NDE) techniques such as Visual Inspection.
  • Objective evidence of previous NDE qualification/certification including NDE certification, Training Diplomas, Experience Logs and Education (HS, University etc.) meeting SNT-TC-1A is required.
  • Must be capable of using NDE techniques to solve complex inspection problems.
  • Must display a working knowledge of inspection codes and standards.

    Additional Requirements by Specialty Focus Area:

    Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning (HVAC) Inspector:

  • Certify and maintain a commercial level HVAC Inspector qualification from a nationally recognized program.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and related.

    Plumbing Inspector:

  • Certify and maintain a commercial level Plumbing Inspector qualification from the International Association of Plumbing Mechanical program.
  • Journeyman Plumbing license. Maintenance of Journeyman license is required.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Greater than 1,000 hours in examination/inspection experience.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Working Conditions:

The work environment includes various facilities that may include exposure to extreme temperatures, UV (sun) exposure, radiation work, noisy and/or loud equipment, and hazards involving the use of power tools, lasers, and equipment which subjects the employee to mechanical and electrical hazards. Work may involve wearing protective clothing and utilizing ladders > 6 feet. Workdays will be longer than 8-hour days, with overtime/irregular hours, and working alone. Conditions may result in intermittent exposure to stress because of human behavior and various responsibilities.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($30.84 - $50.87) / Level 4 ($36.08 - $59.52). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
