Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant plays a key role in creating a smooth, supportive, and efficient experience for patients in an Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery clinic. This role blends clinical skill with patientcentered care, assisting providers during specialized ENT evaluations and treatments. CMAs/RMAs help guide patients through visits, support procedures such as endoscopies and ear cleanings, and ensure the clinic flows seamlessly from checkin to checkout.


Qualifications

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Education requirement: High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Collect patient information: chief complaint, family/social/surgical history, medication reconciliation
  • Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other facilities as directed
  • Gather and maintain patient information via phone per department policies
  • Perform administrative tasks: checkin/out, prior authorizations, scheduling, benefits verification, referrals, and testing coordination
  • Carry out office procedures per department competencies
  • Perform procedures such as urine catheterization, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, cast application/removal, and pointofcare diagnostic testing
  • Read negative TB skin tests or escalate to nursing staff if positive indications appear
  • Provide written instructions for procedures, medications, or followup per provider direction
  • Retrieve and provide conditionspecific education materials per provider orders
  • Administer medications per provider order
  • Assist with prescription refills per protocol, call medications into pharmacies, notify patients, and document in EMR
  • Maintain competencies for pointofcare testing, equipment handling, and specialty skills
  • Room patients from lobby to exam room and obtain all vital signs
  • Upload outside CDs and photos to Epic; transfer scope videos from flash drive to Idrive
  • Set up scope towers and clean scopes after exams
  • Assist with procedures such as biopsies, tube placements, and chemical cautery
  • Spray patients with lidocaine/Afrin prior to scope procedures

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
