Position Summary

The Digital & IT Technical Specialist Level 1 contributes to the implementation and support of industrial connectivity and data platforms used to collect, normalize, contextualize, and deliver manufacturing and asset data for analytics, reporting, and operational applications. The role performs configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring, and documentation for plant/edge connectivity solutions and associated systems (e.g., historians, SCADA integration, Ignition, IGS), partnering with IT, OT, engineering, and site teams to maintain secure and stable operations.

Scope/Supervision and Interaction

  • Scope: Site and/or multi-site support for industrial connectivity and data services, including edge connectivity, historian interfaces, and data integration patterns.
  • Supervision received: Works under general direction of a senior technical lead, platform owner, or manager. Executes defined work with increasing independence.
  • Supervision exercised: None.

The Digital and IT Sr. Technical Specialist Level 1(Operations & Quality) will have excellent analytical skills to understand and meet business requirements, solve problems using best practices and standard IT solutions. This is a hands-on systems/data analysis and technical role, that collaborates with the business users, technical teams, and vendors for solution implementation projects. You will play a champion role in identifying business requirements, analyzing current state business processes and systems, mapping requirements to future state system capabilities, and configuring, training, implementing, and supporting enterprise solutions.

The role will also be responsible for maintaining/supporting one or more systems supporting manufacturing operations and enhancing/maintaining future state systems post project implementation. Typical methods and tools used include conducting root cause & corrective actions and working with business stakeholders and IT teams to drive improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Industrial Connectivity & Edge Enablement

  • Configure and support plant/edge connectivity solutions enabling reliable data movement between OT systems and enterprise platforms.
  • Assist with deployment and support of industrial integration components such as IGS, Ignition, and related gateway services.
  • Implement and support standard industrial communication methods including OPC UA, MQTT, and common controller/data-source interfaces as directed.

    Data Platform Operations (Historians, Contextualization, and Delivery)

  • Support historians and data acquisition pipelines, including tag onboarding, basic naming alignment, and data quality checks.
  • Assist in data contextualization activities (e.g., mapping tags to assets/equipment, production lines, work centers, maintaining reference metadata).
  • Support data delivery and integration patterns via APIs (e.g., REST), file-based exchange, or platform connectors, following approved standards.

    Monitoring, Reliability, and ISA-95 Level 2 Support

  • Provide ISA-95 L2 operational support for connectivity and data platform services:
    • Triage incidents, perform root-cause troubleshooting, and restore services within SLA expectations.
    • Monitor platform health, connectivity status, and data flow using approved tools and dashboards.
    • Execute routine maintenance tasks (service restarts, certificate updates as directed, connector validation, log review).
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation (runbooks, configuration records, known error articles).

    Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate with OT, engineering, and IT teams to plan and execute connectivity changes with minimal production impact.
  • Contribute to standardization efforts (templates, onboarding checklists, configuration baselines).
  • Support secondary touchpoints with manufacturing applications by ensuring data availability and integration readiness.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Automation, or related field
  • 5 years or more experience in one or more of the following environments:
    • Manufacturing/industrial IT (OT/IT interfaces)
    • Systems integration or plant-floor data collection
    • Platform operations/support for industrial software

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Hands-on familiarity with one or more:
    • OPC UA, MQTT, and basic API integration concepts
    • Kepserver, IGS, Azure IoT, HighByte, etc.
    • SCADA and historian platforms
    • OT and IoT network communication and applying cyber security practices
  • Basic networking knowledge relevant to OT environments (e.g., TCP/IP concepts, firewall request workflows, DNS, certificates-under guidance).
  • Exposure to data governance concepts (metadata, ownership, lifecycle) and monitoring practices (alerts, dashboards).
  • Experience supporting integrations that enable or feed MES/MOM, Tulip, or EAM/CMMS systems (secondary emphasis).
